Message from Walker Administration
April 17, 2026
Dearest Walker Families,
We wanted to take a moment to celebrate what a wonderful few days we’ve had here at Walker Elementary. It was a busy mix of learning, focus, and well-deserved rewards!
Growing Together: We kicked things off Monday in the library with a fantastic Native Plant Presentation. A huge thank you to the Walker Green Team and Shades of Green Nursery for teaching us how to keep our community beautiful (and for those fun door prizes!).
Fifth grade Choral Celebration: Huge appreciation to Mrs. Johnson and the 5th grade Choir for representing Walker so well and singing so beautifully!
Star Performance: Our 5th graders did an incredible job staying focused during the Science STAAR on Thursday. We are so proud of the hard work and stamina they showed!
Out of This World: As a special "Gift to Stars" for our amazing Read-a-Thon success, students got to explore the galaxy in the SkyDome Planetarium during Specials! It was such a treat to see their excitement as the stars came to life right in our own building. 🚀✨
Community Support: Thank you to all our parents and volunteers for being so flexible and supportive during our closed campus days this week. Your help in creating a quiet, successful testing environment makes a world of difference for our students. We have one more STAAR test. coming up on Tuesday MATH for 3rd-5th grade students - please note the adjusted schedule.
It’s been a high-energy week, and we hope your kiddos come home with plenty of stories to tell! Enjoy the weekend, and we’ll see everyone back on Monday! ⭐️
The district sent an email on April 2nd regarding the incredibly informative parent survey. The information gathered through your feedback helps with strategic planning at the district level and helps us set goals for improvement in MISD and at Walker! Please make sure to complete this survey before April 24th. We are committed to continuous improvement and value your feedback.
Sincerely,
Michelle Baumann, Principal
Misty Young, Asst. Principal

Attendance Matters!
Studies show that excessive absences can negatively impact a child's education, including the loss of teacher-led lessons, peer interactions, and academic achievement. While we do not want our students to attend school if they are sick, please help us make punctuality and daily attendance a priority for your Star/s regarding all other circumstances. Should you need to keep your child home for any reason, please click the button below to report an absence.
MISD School Safety
MISD School Safety
A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the uniform classroom response to any incident. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by all McKinney ISD schools and District Administration and staff. Historically, schools have taken this scenario-based approach to respond to hazards and threats. Each McKinney ISD classroom is furnished with the Standard Response Protocol poster that provides teachers with readily accessible response procedures and provides information during a crisis event. The attached handout explains Standard Response Protocol that is taught to students, faculty and staff.
Please this link to view the Standard Response Protocol parent information.

Volunteer Information
As a service to McKinney ISD students and families, the district provides the Community Folder for school related, non-school related, and non-profit organizations. Electronic communication has become standard and is preferred by many parents; the schools are sharing more and more information via email as a convenience to parents. This also cuts back on paper coming home in folders. Information posted and accepted must be youth-oriented and will be reviewed and approved by the Communications Department. Updates will be posted often, so we ask that you check back for the latest opportunities and information from our community.
