Next week we have our spring book fair and in 2 weeks we have a fun filled afternoon planned for our Marlin Fair! These last 8 weeks of school are going to be packed with things going on around campus, be sure to read through the Messenger each week and check those parent square messages!

April is Celebrate Diversity Month. This celebration started in 2004 to recognize and honor the diversity surrounding us all. We encourage you to get involved by showing acceptance and including others in learning about cultures that are not already a part of your daily life. Involve your family, friends, and neighbors so that we can all gain a better understanding and celebrate each other’s diversity. There are many ways you can do this, but here are 5 examples if you need a little bit of inspiration:

1. Invite friends and family over for a pot luck meal where participants bring in food that represents their ethnicity or their favorite ethnic foods.

2. Create a craft with your family and friends that represents different cultures.

3. Plan an event that brings different cultural groups together to learn about each other.

4. Explore different cultures through art forms, poetry, music, crafts, traditional costumes, or language.

5. Watch movies or read books that deal with diverse topics.

Marlins, this week we’re asking: When did Celebrate Diversity Month start? Place one answer slip in a Cultural Corner box by the end of the school day this Thursday for your chance to win a prize. Your Student Council members will select 1 primary and 1 upper grade student from a raffle during Friday morning announcements.
