March 6, 2026

Dear Families,

As the Superintendent mentioned in her last newsletter, with the five snow days and the Juneteenth holiday observed on June 19, the new last day of school is now scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2026. The last day will be a half day for students. Typically, that would mean that we move finals to reflect the new last day of school. We are waiting to make that decision official until we are out of winter and know the true last day.

We know that some families have planned for trips and we want to respect your ability to coordinate those. At the same time, we need to oblige by the law that students are required to be in school for 180 days. All we can say at this point is that school cannot go beyond June 30th, and it is likely that finals will be shifted to reflect the snow days.

For seniors, graduation and the last day of classes will remain the same. Hopefully we will have a warm March and a bit of breathing room between the last day of school and the Fourth of July.

Cross your fingers.

Sincerely,

Brian T. Scott

Curriculum Night

Dear Parents and Guardians of Rising 9th Graders,

You are warmly invited to attend the CHS Curriculum Night on Tuesday, March 24th at 6:00 PM in the CMHS Learning Commons.

This evening is designed specifically for parents and guardians. Students will receive the same information during course selection assemblies held during the school day. During Curriculum Night, our guidance counselors and department heads will introduce themselves, provide an overview of the high school schedule, and share important considerations to help you support your student as they build their schedule for next year.

If you are planning to attend the All School Chorus Concert, please note that it will begin at 7:00 PM, immediately following Curriculum Night.

We look forward to welcoming you and partnering together for a successful start to high school!

Robotics Club

The CHS Robotics Club competed in the FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Competition at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in February. The team placed 18th out of 30 teams — a strong showing given the obstacles they faced. Our students showed remarkable grit and teamwork while troubleshooting hardware and programming setbacks. Their persistence and collaboration are what make these experiences valuable learning opportunities. Thank you to all the members of the CHS Robotics Team for your hard work this year!

FAFSA Notification

In November 2024, Section 1A of Chapter 69 of the General Laws was amended by adding language stating that the commissioner of elementary and secondary education shall require each school district to:

  • notify students, prior to graduating from high school, of the availability of the free application for federal student aid, known as the FAFSA;
  • provide students with information on federal and state financial aid options for postsecondary education; and
  • provide students with instructions for completing state and federal financial aid applications.

As you consider your options after high school, we encourage you to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA, in order to access grants, federal student loans, and work-study funds for college. Filling out the FAFSA is one of the most important steps students and their families can take to pay for college and is the key to unlocking college financial aid from federal, state, and local sources.

If your immigration status prevents you from qualifying for federal aid, you might still be eligible for aid through the Massachusetts Application for State Financial Aid (MASFA), which can help you attend public institutions of higher education in Massachusetts.

Applying for financial aid helps keep college an option for the fall but does not commit you to enrolling. Fill out the FAFSA or MASFA as early as possible to maximize the aid you can receive.

There are resources available to help with this process, including the following:

  1. Go Higher Go Higher is the Commonwealth’s initiative to share information about access and affordability at public institutions of higher education in Massachusetts. Go Higher offers paths that make higher education more affordable–like free community college, free or affordable four-year degrees, career-connected scholarships, and more.
  2. DESE, in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education and the Executive Office of Education, has identified FAFSA resources that may be helpful.
  3. The Department of Higher Education’s Office of Student Financial Assistance is the Commonwealth’s “go to” on resources concerning student financial aid.
  4. The federal government’s FAFSA website includes steps for families, and entities such as the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) provide information and continuing supports during the school year for educators, counselors, administrators, students and their families.

Fill out the FAFSA or MASFA as early as possible to maximize the aid you can receive!

Feedback Sought on High School Graduation Requirements

Last week, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced a new public surveyto help inform the creation and implementation of new high school graduation requirements. Students, families, educators, district leaders, businesses, and community members can complete the survey online, which should take 10-12 minutes.

Yearbooks!!

We need to pre-purchase yearbooks. To ensure that you get one, please order one as soon as possible. As of today, 39 seniors have not purchased yearbooks.
