Counselor's Corner
For the last week in August, students will learn about what I do here at Pershing as their School Counselor. We look at my roles, responsibilities, and how I can offer support for students.
As we start into September, the focus for all grades K-5 will be academic success. In our Kindergarten-2nd grade classes, we will spend our time focused on Whole-Body Listening. In our 3rd-5th classes, we will look at a multitude of ways that students learn, and look at strategies that we can use within our top learning styles.
As the year progresses, please reach out to me with any questions and/or concerns. Below is my contact information.
I look forward to another year here at Pershing!

Library News!
We are so glad to see our new and returning readers! The first couple of weeks during library time, we learned and reviewed library expectations and procedures. Students practiced walking feet and library voice volume, then checked out books. The main question from all of our readers was: How many books can we check out?
Kindergarteners may have one book per week.
First graders may have two books per week.
Grades 2-5 may have as many books as they like, provided they can:
Likely finish those books in a week,
Keep track of their library books, and
Carry the books easily in their hands.
September is when Hispanic Heritage month begins, so “¡Nos encanta leer!” (We love to read!) is our theme for the month. Students will receive a reading log with each day of September printed on it. Every day, they will write in what they’re reading and how much time they spent reading. The students who read the most for each of the three levels (K-1, 2-3, & 4-5) will win a piñata.
We will be having our first Scholastic Book Fair of the year during the week of September 11. Flyers will be coming home soon. Please consider creating a Scholastic eWallet for your child, so they don’t have to keep track of cash, checks, or cards.

Why join PTA?
It costs $10.00 to join PTA. You are not obligated to donate your time just because you sign up. This small amount of money quickly adds up to support our small school. Grandparents and other family members are welcome to join and support the PTA! Each dollar goes toward Pershing Elementary.
Our Pershing PTA would love your involvement as much as you wish to help. This is a great way to show your child you support their school.
If you wish to know more just ask a PTA Board Member!
