CA Update
October 1
The Canandaigua City School District is committed to protecting the safety, health, and well-being of our students and employees. During the week of October 1 to October 5, students in each of our buildings will practice safety drills and procedures. On Monday, during 4th period staff will emphasize the following items.
- Our goal is to keep us as safe as possible.
- We are learning and practicing drills to keep us safe during an emergency situation.
- When we do drills, we must have all students take them seriously and follow the directions given by staff.
- To assist with drills, we ask that students remain quiet and attentive. If they have questions, please have them ask when the drill is over.
- If students have questions, please let their teachers know. We will collect them and do our best to answer.
The following drills will be practiced during the week:
- Shelter in Place
- Hold in Place
- Evacuation
- Lockout
- Lockdown
On Friday, October 5, all buildings will practice an evacuation by walking to their designated reunification site. Students should be appropriately dressed for the weather conditions. October 5 will also be an early dismissal drill. All students in the District have a half day. Dismissal times are:
- Canandaigua Middle School 10:40 a.m.
- Canandaigua Academy 10:55 a.m.
- Canandaigua Primary-Elementary School 11:45 a.m. (first bus run); 11:55 a.m. (second bus run)
The safety of students is always our foremost concern. We have many procedures and policies in place to maintain a safe environment for all students. It is important that we practice these procedures in the event of an emergency. Thank you for your cooperation with safety week.
PINK OUT 2018!
Help Support CA Girls Soccer with this Year's Pink Out. T-shirts are still available in the atrium Monday for $10. Come out and cheer on the team Tuesday when they take on Churchville Chili @ 6:30pm on Braves Field. The Junior Varsity match will be at 4:30.
At the game Raffle Baskets, 50/50 raffle, and Baked Goods will be sold. All Proceeds from this event will be donated to Embrace Your Sisters(EYS).
Wednesday is Walk to School Day. The goals are to increase awareness about pedestrian safety, increase environmental awareness, and increase physical activity.
If you live within walking distance of CA, please strongly encourage your child to walk or bike to school. We also encourage you to talk about pedestrian safety and safe routes to school with your student.
On Wednesday, the morning will look different than usual at CA. Students may still be dropped off as usual. Student drivers may also park as usual. If your student rides the bus to school, he/she will be dropped off at the Braves Field parking lot for a symbolic walk up the hill to school. There will be administrators and teacher volunteers present to escort the walkers.
We hope your child will enjoy a walk in the fresh, autumn air with their friends. It is meant to be a fun and festive event. We encourage students to wear comfortable shoes, dress for the weather, and show some school spirit by wearing cherry and gray. In the event of inclement weather, there will be no rain date this year, due to our drill week activities.
