The Buzz
Summer Term - 9th July 2026
Message from the Executive Headteacher
Welcome to the final edition of the Buzz for this academic year, this is also the final week for the HPP Weekly Update email and there will be a message next week on Thursday from ELT to round off the year. It has been a very busy and hugely productive year at HPP and I was so pleased to last week announce the arrival of the new school minibus which I know will be well used by all of the children of HPP - well done to you the parents and carers for raising the funds for it.
HPP remains in a very good position with more parents than ever choosing to join HPP meaning that we will likely be full in most year groups in September. Whilst HPP is not perfect, no school ever is, we are obviously doing quite a lot right for the children and families. This week I had the pleasure of watching the year 6 production of Matilda, this was their grand finale and I couldn't have been prouder of the fantastic performance and singing by the children who really put their all into it. I know that they will leave HPP well prepared for the next step in their educational journey.
Last week we welcomed so many interesting and exciting visitors across HPP, aspiration week at HPP is about helping the children to really understand the options they will have in the future. All of the speakers came from within the school community, from aircraft engineers to film and screen writers. The children and staff were amazed and captivated in equal part by the presentations. Thank you to you, the parents and carers of HPP for making it such an eye opening and interesting week for the children.
The popular house colours that children from HJS belong to are coming to HISN, the new PE tops are available to buy from our uniform provider and we encourage all the HISN children to get the correct colour. If your child is going to HJS in the future, you are getting your PE top a little early! We would like all children to have the correct top by October half term if at all possible.
The governors have considered the responses from the consultation on changing the times of the school day, and will be communicating the outcome with all families and staff this week.
Whilst this seems very early, the Calendar of Events for the Autumn term 2026 has now been finalised, please make a note of the important dates such as parents consultation evenings and the Christmas shows.
Finally, have a restful summer break and I look forward to seeing you on September 7th for years 1-6. New children joining Nursery and Reception have already had communication regarding their starting day.

A gentle reminder that bikes should not be chained to the school perimeter fence, we have plenty of bike and scooter rack space available outside the school office.
Message from the Chair of Governers
At the end of this busy Summer term, I am pleased to share an update with HPP families on behalf of HPP Governors.
Some Governor highlights from this term include:
A full packed agenda of committee meeting where we received really engaging presentations from the RSE and PSHE leads at HISN and HJS, which underlined HPP's commitment to quality first teaching.
We scrutinised and approved the three year budget for HPP, as well as considering reports and updates from HPP about subjects including behaviour, attendance, safeguarding, and health and safety
We held a Strategy Day where we considered on how we operate as a Governing Board and how best to fulfil our responsibilities in the future;
Undertaking the annual Parents and Carers Survey, which provides tremendously useful perspectives on HPP. The survey results reflects very positively on parents and carers view of HPP, and your children's experience at school (more on this next week!);
Conducting a consultation on school hours (more on this below); and
Attending some fantastic school events, including sports days, the school fair, SATs exams, and the welcome event for Early Years parents.
Last night we had our final Full Governing Board meetings of the academic year, where amongst other things we considered the results of the consultation on school hours. We are pleased to confirm that following that process, and having considered the feedback, the Governors unanimously agreed and ratified the proposal to change the school hours. There are more details in relation to this in a letter from Governors which can be found here.
We wish all HPP families a wonderful summer break, and look forward to continuing to support HPP to be the best it can be in 2026/2027.

Chair of Governors
Last Thursday, Mrs Maxted and Mrs Hughes attended the Attachment Aware Silver Award Celebration Event on behalf of the Inclusion Team. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the work HPP has accomplished this year as part of this project, as well as connect with other schools, who participated, and hear about their own journeys toward the award. The awards were presented by Councillor Nancy Baldwin, Mayor of Richmond upon Thames. Miss Delaney also led the project but was unable to attend on the day.

Year 1
Year 1 had great fun during ‘Aspiration Week’ and were thoroughly spoilt with all of our amazing assemblies. We enjoyed learning about different careers and listening to the many exciting things our friends’ parents do each day as a job. The whole week was incredibly inspiring and culminated in our very own ‘Aspiration Day’, giving us all the opportunity to dress up and show our friends what careers we would like to try in the future. We would like to send a huge thank you to all of the parents who kindly gave up their time to support this initiative this week – it’s been amazing!
As well as all of the excitement around Aspiration Week, we have also been continuing with our day-to-day learning. In English, we have been focusing on the alternative version of Rapunzel by the author Bethan Woolvin. We have enjoyed interpreting pictures from the story and comparing this version to alternative versions that we are more familiar with. We have also learnt about keeping a diary and why people write in diaries, and we are looking forward to writing our very own diary entry from the perspective of Rapunzel. We have been learning about money in maths, calculating amounts, finding values and solving money problems using 2p, 5p and 10p coins.
We have been focusing on team building skills in PE this week, and the importance of listening and working together as a team. We worked with a partner and in small teams, ensuring we talked and listened to each other to help plan tactics and decide on strategies before playing a range of games that focused on using effective communication.
In art, we have been looking at printing, using African fabrics as our inspiration. We have focused on the artist Yinka Shonibare, and researched different African fabrics as inspiration before spending time creating our own fabric designs.
We have been learning about the different weather conditions across the UK in geography, looking at how these change across the year and discussing how this affects our clothing and activities that we do. We then created our weather reports using our knowledge, choosing the most appropriate symbols to represent this. We have also linked this to our PSHE topic, where we thought about the importance of staying safe in the sun and what we could do when the weather is hot to help us stay cool and protected.

Amazon Wish Lists
Over the last few years families have very kindly contributed gifts to the school via the Amazon wish list. These gifts are always incredibly well received and have made such a difference to the school community and your children.
This Wish List is populated by teachers who have a clear understanding of the additional resources that are needed and what would make the biggest difference. When completing your purchase, please remember to include a gift receipt stating which year group it should go to and who it is from.
If you are able to make a purchase, please follow the links below:
Parking
Reminder to all parents to be considerate to our neighbours when dropping off and collecting your child. Do not park on zig-zag lines, double yellow lines or block neighbours driveways. Parking on zig-zag lines blocks visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly young children who may be harder to see. Please park legally and considerately, and allow extra time to find appropriate parking. Even better – consider walking, cycling or using a park-and-stride location if possible.
