Happy Friday, Chapelfield Families.

Our entire community showed PAWS today given the many shifts we had to make due to Ohio's weather. We were able to have our fun walk wearing our brand new t-shirts! I was impressed with our students' athletic abilities!

We quickly had to move our parade indoors due to rain. The students smiled at each child and gave kind compliments as they walked in the hallways. I appreciate all of the hard work of our room parents on planning great fall parties. Thank you for your dedication.

Today was a great day to be a Chapelfield lion. We truly are one team, one family. Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Nikki Miller

2. Once in the portal, click on "DOCUMENTS" in the left menu and select the appropriate progress report.

3. The progress report will open in a new window so please be sure to allow pop ups with Infinite Campus.

4. As you move the cursor around, a menu will appear at the top of the progress report giving you an option to download or print if you desire.

Attendance on Report Cards

You may notice on your child’s report card or on the attendance section in Infinite Campus that their tardies will remain at 0 all year, even if they have been late on one or more occasions. If a student is tardy to school, the absence is coded as “unexcused” unless a medical note is provided for the reason for their tardiness. To follow state truancy and absence guidelines, all missed school time is calculated by hours, so this is the reason for the coding. For example, if a student arrives at 8:15am, their attendance will be coded AUX (absence unexcused). If you hover over that specific day, you’ll see it will say “checked in at 8:15am.” This would count 15 minutes of missed school time, or 1/4 of an hour.

Once a student reaches 38 hours of excused or unexcused hours of absence in one month, or 65 hours of excused or unexcused hours in a school year, the student will be flagged as excessively absent. Once this threshold is reached, you will receive a letter of notification of the excessive absence flag, as well as some proactive measures to take to ensure students are coming to school each day. From that point forward, any absence will require medical documentation to be considered excused.

A habitually truant student is “any child of compulsory school age who is absent without legitimate excuse for absence from the public school the child is supposed to attend for thirty (30) or more consecutive hours, forty-two (42) or more hours in one school month, or seventy-two (72) or more hours in one school year.” In the case of habitual truancy, an absence intervention plan would be created with a building administrator, parent/guardian of the child, and the district truancy officer.

Please see the GJPS district guidance with additional helpful information regarding attendance. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Williams, Assistant Principal, at 614-269-4894 or williamsc@gjps.org.

Gifted Visual and Performing Arts Referral Process Gifted Visual and Performing Arts Referral Process

Each year school districts in Ohio are required to offer an opportunity for students in grades K-12 to be identified as gifted in the area of Visual and Performing Arts. The identified areas of giftedness for Visual and Performing Arts include Visual Arts, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Drama/Theater, and Dance. If you know of a student that may be gifted in an area of the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and would like for them to be screened for possible gifted identification in that particular area, please complete the Visual and Performing Arts Nomination Form.

Click here to learn more about the two-phase VPA gifted identification process.

Nominations will be accepted until noon on Monday, November 20, 2023, and will only be accepted using the Google link above.

If you have any questions, please contact Colleen Boyle at gjpsgifted@gjps.org.
