Principal's Weekly Update #31
May 2, 2025
Dear Wales Families,
The PTO reminder: Next week is staff appreciation week. Anyone who volunteered to donate items, please drop them off at the school on Monday morning.
This week our 3rd-grade students participated in the NYS math assessments and we were able to complete one of our two spring fire drills.
What an amazing season our students had playing unified sports at Wales. A huge thank you to our staff who helped make this dream a reality: Michelle Porzio, Tanya Gallagher, Karen Landahl, Holly Ndeze, Amber Klein, Caroline Wrest, Lynn Sikorski, and Alexis Andres.
We are excited to share that our Wales Primary Unified team will be playing during the halftime of the High School Unified game the Iroquois High School on May 19th at 5pm. Come cheer our Wales friends on!
As the parent of a special needs child and on the heels of a month devoted to acceptance and inclusion of neurodiversity, I would encourage you to explore our Unified Sports teams at Iroquois. Our 11-year-old son, who is neurologically different with a diagnosis of autism, loves to be around and play with other kiddos. At his age, kids can see and hear the differences in Aiden. He has only been invited to one birthday party, and if you could have seen the excitement on our son's face when he proudly brought that invitation home...it would fill your heart with joy. Aiden was able to join band this year in his school, and his enthusiasm and love for being included and part of something that some of our other children take for granted, brought tears to our eyes. Unified sports allow all our children to be a part of a sports team and the core principle is that training and playing together fosters friendship, understanding, and inclusion. It is such an honor to be a part of this amazing building and the dedicated employees at Wales who work every day to help every child feel included and loved.
Have a great week and thank you for all you do to support Wales!
