Spring Report Card Pick-Up

Helping our students thrive is at the heart of everything we do. I am proud to say that our teachers value connecting with the parents of our students and the parents of our students value collaborating with our teachers. Thank you to the teachers and parents who shared feedback within our RCPU surveys; your perspectives were incredibly valuable in highlighting the value of parent-teacher connections. Your perspectives also highlighted where we can make the process smoother and more meaningful for everyone.

March 18 is our next Parent Teacher Conference Day/Report Card Pick-Up (RCPU). We want to build a RCPU model that honors expertise and everyone's overall investment of time, while keeping our student's growth at the absolute center of every conversation. We invite you to vote on the direction that best fits our community.

Chicago Public Library

All students now have access to the Chicago Public Library, even without a library card. Students can use their CPS ID number and zip code to use materials online at chipublib.org and to check out up to 5 physical items from any Chicago Public Library branch.

Morning Drop-off

School starts at 8am. For students to be on-time for their 1st period class, they should be dropped off by 7:50am. Please do everything you can to get your student(s) to school on time! The drop-off zone is only out and supported from 7:10-8:05am.

Please pull all the way down to the end of the drop-off zone to drop-off on Wolcott. This allows us to maximize the number of cars dropping-off in our drop-off zone.

Please do not drop-off in the thru lane on the right. This holds up traffic and requires students to cross a lane of traffic to get to the building.Please use the drop-off lane.

Please make sure your student is ready to get out of the car with all of their belongings when you pull up.

High School Research Opportunities

Spring 2026: Sessions and Enrollment Status

For Spring 2026, VMRC is offering two online sessions:

Session 1: January 12 – February 21, 2026 (Closed)

Session 2: February 24 – April 4, 2026 (Open for registration)

For best consideration, we recommend that students submit their applications by:

Session 2 priority date: February 17, 2026

Students can review research topics, mentors, and schedules — and then apply — via the Spring 2026 page:

Spring 2026 Research Projects & Registration:
https://www.math.lsu.edu/mathcircle/2026-spring

Students who are ready to apply can go directly to the online application form:
Direct Student Application Form:
https://lsu.formstack.com/forms/vmrc_student_registration

What is VMRC?

Virtual Math Research Circle (VMRC) is an advanced, online mathematics enrichment program for high school students (grades 9–12). In small teams of approximately 3–6 students, participants:

  • Work with professional mathematicians (faculty, postdocs, and graduate students);
  • Study advanced topics beyond the typical high-school curriculum;
  • Formulate and test conjectures, write proofs, and run small computational experiments; and
  • Present their findings in colloquium-style talks and written reports.

VMRC emphasizes collaboration, clear communication, and authentic research — rather than contest preparation or routine problem sets.

Who Should Consider Applying?

This program is a strong fit for students who:

  • Are in grades 9–12 (or equivalent) and comfortable with challenging mathematics;
  • Enjoy problem-solving, reasoning, and writing about ideas — not just getting the “right answer”;
  • Are interested in topics such as graph theory, combinatorics, probability, number theory, discrete optimization, or applied modeling; and
  • Work well in small teams and are willing to commit to regular online meetings for the duration of the session.

STEM Scholars After School Programs

The STEM Scholars program is a free, six-week after-school program for high school students (9th - 12th grades) to explore STEM fields and reinforce their science knowledge through challenging, hands-on activities, with the opportunity to intern at the ERC over the summer.

The Spring 2026 STEM Scholars after-school program registration is now open! Registration closes on February 25, 2026, with sessions starting on March 2nd.

Students can learn more about the program and register by visiting stemscholars-erc.uic.edu.
