Parent Teacher Conferences
Thank you to everyone that attended parent teacher conferences! If you were unable to make it, please get in touch with your child's teacher to schedule a time to discuss how your child is doing.
Picture Retakes
Tuesday, October 17th will be picture retake day. If your child was not here on picture day, Lifetouch will be taking their photo that day.
If you received your student's pictures from picture day and you are not happy with them, your student can have their pictures retaken today. They will need to have their original pictures in the package with them for the retakes. They will also need to either be able to explain to the photographer what you/they did not like about the photos so we can avoid the same issue with the retakes OR bring a note from home describing what you/they didn't like about their photo to give to the photographer.
Background Checks
Volunteer background checks are required to be completed for field trips, class parties, or any volunteer time in a classroom. Our Halloween party is set to take place on Friday, October 25. If you have not already done so, please go to this link and complete this at least 1 week prior to any of these events. If you have already completed this last year you will not need to do this again. You may email Devinnie Wysocki at the central office and she will update your background check. Her email address is dwysocki@nbas.org. Please let us know if you have any questions.
National School Lunch Week
We’re celebrating National School Lunch Week October 14 - 18
Your tummy will say AARGH without lunch!
National School Lunch Week (NSLW) began in 1962 under President John F. Kennedy to
highlight the importance of providing nutritious school lunches. The National School Lunch
Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children daily, ensuring that every young sailor gets
the vital nutrients needed to thrive in and out of the classroom. NSLW is a perfect time to
celebrate and appreciate the program’s commitment to healthy eating and the positive impact it
has on students’ lives.
Why pirates, you may ask? Well, it’s no secret that pirates have long captured the imaginations
of children and adults alike with their tales of high-seas adventures and hidden treasures. By
tapping into this timeless fascination, #NSLW24 aims not only to boost participation in the
National School Lunch Program but also to foster a sense of excitement and camaraderie
among students as they gather to break bread together.
Michigan Apple Crunch @ New Buffalo Area Schools
It’s Michigan Apple Crunch time at New Buffalo Area Schools.
We are joining other schools, early care centers, colleges, hospitals, and other organizations across Michigan in the annual Michigan Apple Crunch. Participants celebrate National Farm to School Month and local farmers by crunching into
MICHIGAN apples!
All students and staff will have the opportunity to crunch a MICHIGAN apple on Thursday, October 17th. Apples will be available at school during breakfast. We encourage all staff and students to start their day with a CRUNCH!
We encourage students and staff to wear the color of their favorite apple on October 17th.
This collective crunch encourages healthy eating and supports farm to school and local food initiatives throughout the state. Michigan is the nation’s second largest producer of apples. There are more than 14.9 million apple trees covering 34,500 acres on 775 family-run farms in Michigan. With Michigan’s climate, proximity to lakes and nutrient-rich soil, growers discovered Michigan was the ideal place to grow quality, fruitful apples. (Source: Michiganapples.com)
