Principal Message
Dear Families,
For those of you that may not know, Mrs. House brings butterfly chrysalises to our LMC, and our students are able to watch them emerge. This week, the last of the monarchs emerged, and our fourth graders were able to see the magic! Thank you, Mrs. House, for always sharing fascinating science with our owls.
Sincerely,
Erin, Julia, and the OMS Staff
Honoring our Heroes: Veterans Day Tribute
As Veterans Day approaches, our school would like to take a moment to honor and recognize the brave men and women who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. We invite our school community to share photos of veterans or active-duty service members from their families. These photos will be proudly displayed on a special bulletin board at school as a tribute to their service and sacrifice.
Please fill out this form (with the service member’s name, branch of service, and your child's name/class) and upload a photo by Tuesday, October 28. If you have any trouble uploading your photo to this form, please email it to us at omslmc@sd25.org. If you send us an email, please make sure to include your child’s name, the service member’s full name, the person’s branch of service, and the relationship to the student.
Students will also be invited to color and write cards to thank veterans and service members for their service to our country as Veterans Day draws closer.
Thank you for helping us celebrate our heroes and teach our students the importance of honoring those who serve.
Lockdown Drill Rescheduled
Our Lockdown Drill with the Arlington Heights Police Department has been rescheduled for October 14th.
Parent-Teacher Conference Sign Up Reminder
On Monday, Oct. 6th at 10:00 a.m. an email will be sent with links to sign up for your child's conference.
Author Visit - Lindsay Currie
Fourth and fifth graders felt tingles up their spines as they listened to Illinois author, Lindsay Currie, describe some of her creepy books. Known for titles like Scritch Scratch and A Peculiar Incident on Shady Street, Currie captivated students with tales of mysterious legends, escape room adventures, and the small real-life moments that spark her exciting stories.
She revealed that she always carries an “idea notebook,” ready to jot down curious details from everyday places and events like visits to grocery stores or dentist’s offices. One of her most haunting inspirations was a visit to Graceland Cemetery in Chicago. Weathered old gravestones and unusual statues captured her attention and wove their way into some of her spooky stories.
During a Q&A session, students asked insightful questions about the writing process and the path to getting a book published. Ms. Currie encouraged young writers to welcome feedback and keep exploring their imaginations.
PTA Coat and Accessories Drive
With the warm weather, families probably haven't thought much about sorting through winter clothes! The OMS PTA is currently collecting warm winter wear (coats, scarves, hats, gloves/mittens, and boots) to be donated to WINGS.
Please send your child in with any donatable items to place in the large collection box in the OMS Commons. The drive has been extended for another week.
Halloween Info Coming Soon
Early next week we will share all things Halloween, parade route and party times, costume information, and the permission slip that must be filled out for each student.
Multicultural Night 2025
Save the Date - Thursday, November 6th from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
We are excited to host our 3rd Annual Multicultural Night in conjunction with our informal 3rd grade concert! Over the past two years, many OMS families signed up to "host" a room along with an OMS staff member to highlight and celebrate their cultural background.
