Hello NRMS Families,

I am super proud of our students who completed the ELA MCAS testing this week. The students clearly put forth their best effort and did not rush through the assessments. For students that were absent, we will have them make up the tests upon their return to school.

Our spring sports teams are practicing and getting ready for the first games of the season. Hopefully the temperatures rise soon. We have spots available on our baseball team. We hope some additional 6th and 7th graders will join the team.

Next week is the start of the 4th quarter and we have just nine weeks left in the school year. Students will have updated schedules for the 4th quarter with their new exploratory courses starting on Monday. Later in the spring, we will be piloting a new software platform that will assist us with scheduling students during Nauset Time. We also will be working with students during the 4th quarter on utilizing the time available during Nauset Time more effectively. We will look to expand opportunities for enrichment activities while also encouraging students to use this time for extra support or to make up missed assignments/assessments. And, a reminder that students should seek extra help from teachers during the before or after school hours if they begin to struggle in a class. We will share additional details about Nauset Time improvements in May.

On Friday afternoon, we held the final four and championship rounds of the annual 8th grade cornhole tournament. This is a fun, community-building event. The savvy 7th graders are already scouting faculty partners for next year's tournament.

With the start of the 4th quarter upon us, we remind everyone to avoid "fourth term fever," which is a common pitfall for middle school students. While the summer is in sight, we want to be sure that students continue to work hard and focus on staying up to date with their assignments all the way until June. We find it helpful if students think of this as "spring training" and work on strengthening their skills as a scholar so that they offset any natural regression that may occur over the summer months. At home, you can assist by checking the week-at-a-glance documents linked below and reminding students to stay up to date. And, as always, please take away all technology at bedtime.

Enjoy the weekend.
