Update from Superintendent Shuldiner
Dear Lansing School District Community,
I hope that this newsletter finds you well. As always, it is a pleasure to email you all.
I can't believe that the school year is almost over. With less than three weeks before graduation, it just feels like this year flew by. I hope that all of you feel that this year was better than last and that next year will be even better than this one. I really love this time of year as Superintendent because there are so many wonderful events going on, celebrating our students, showcasing their talents, or just fun festivities for our families. So today, I thought it would be fun to share with you my Friday night, where I got to attend three different events, all of which were wonderful and showed just how great this district is.
I left my office a little before 5 pm and drove over to Cavanaugh to attend their yearly Spring Carnival. This year's carnival was awesome. So many families came out to celebrate. There were games and slushies, turtles and ice pops. Seeing our community come together and enjoy each other's company is always so great. I have to give special shout-outs to all of Cavanaugh's staff and their incredible PTO. Thank you so much for all you do for our children. I then left Cavanaugh around 5:45 pm and drove to Hill to attend our annual Latino Recognition Ceremony, where the district celebrates all our Latino graduates.
The Latino Recognition Ceremony is a very special event that the district has been hosting for decades. Seeing so many families in the Hill auditorium cheering on their high school graduates was great. The more, as a district, we celebrate our children for achievement, the more our entire district and community will see the brilliance and worth of our students. Like always, it was a very moving experience that everyone enjoyed. I want to give a shout-out to all of the wonderful staff members and volunteers who made the ceremony possible, and a special shout-out to our own Board member, Dr. Deyanira Nevárez Martínez, for being the keynote speaker. I can't wait for next year! When the ceremony finished, around 7:30 pm, I hustled over to Dwight Rich to catch the end of their production of The Lion King.
As many of you know, I love it when schools put on musicals. Seeing kids singing, dancing, and acting, working together with the love and support of their teachers and volunteers who set the production in motion, is one of my favorite activities to witness. I was so impressed with what I saw on Friday night. The kids sang their hearts out. The auditorium was packed. The final rendition of Circle of Life ended the show and brought down the house. It was such a great way to end the night. I can't tell you how impressed I was with the production. Big shout-outs to all of the staff, families, and volunteers who made the production happen. And of course, congratulations to the students who participated. Great job to you all. Nights like these are what make being a superintendent so great.
I do hope that all of you reading this newsletter get to attend at least one fun event before the end of the year. I know you will enjoy it.
Thank you so much for all of your incredible support of our district. Together, we will do great things for the children of Lansing.

Mackenzie Fox is Headed to States!
Lansing Eastern is proud to celebrate an incredible achievement by our number one singles player, Mackenzie Fox, who finished as the Division 3 Regional Runner-Up and earned her place at the MHSAA State Tournament!
This is a huge moment for Mackenzie, who has poured her heart into this sport with focus, resilience, and an unmatched work ethic. Her dedication has not only propelled her to the top of her game but has also set an example for teammates and peers alike. She has represented Eastern with strength and determination every step of the way.
Her tennis journey will not end here. Mackenzie has committed to continuing her athletic and academic career at Albion College, where she will compete at the collegiate level. We are excited to see all that she will accomplish as she takes this next big step.
Please join us in celebrating Mackenzie’s success and cheering her on as she heads to States. The entire Lansing Eastern community is behind her!
MI Moves at the Capitol!
An active learning experience took place on the lawn of the Michigan State Capitol for over 300 students from Gier Park, Pattengill, and Post Oak. This special event featured distinguished SHAPE-MI Physical Education Teachers of the Year leading the students through a fun morning of exercise and learning at the doorstep of our State Capitol.
For an added touch of excitement, each PE teacher will be paired with a coach or an athlete from Michigan's college and professional sports teams, creating a unique mentorship and learning opportunity. These interactions aim to inspire the young participants by demonstrating top athletes' and coaches' skills and dedication.

Everett's Peace and Inclusivity Garden Gets a Makeover
Students from Everett High School's Anime Club recently worked in their school's Peace and Inclusivity Garden under the watchful eye of the school's Japanese teacher, Christine Kelly (Kelly Sensei as her students call her). The garden was started a year ago by nurses Kelly Line and Connie Smith, along with the school's Art and Science students. The Anime Club worked after school to refresh the posts and gate, and also helped plant flowers and vegetables for the growing season.
Special thanks to Leo Teghtmeyer, Zayla Rivers, Amy Cruz, Luis Blancas Romero, David Mitchell, Dominic Milbourn, Joyce Umuhoza, Ri'Maya Taylor, Chan Myae Paing, Sammy Silva, and Kelly Sensi!
Your work will help the Peace Inclusivity Garden thrive for years to come!
