Carberry Elementary Newsletter
January 2024
Note From the Principal
January 2024
Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to 2024! We are looking forward to a new semester starting back on January 8th. We celebrated 1st semester awards with our Hands, Heart and Mind awards as well as perfect attendance. The 2nd semester is a great time to set new goals with your students for attendance or improving in certain academic areas.
On Monday all men associated with Carberry students are encouraged to come and welcome the students back to school. Students need to be seen, heard and know that they matter. This is also an opportunity for Dads to step up and show support of how important school is and that they believe in the kids. Please show up at 7:45am to get ready to welcome students.
On Friday, January 5th, our teachers were in training on our new reading curriculum “Into Reading” by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. They were also looking at student data to make plans for how to meet the needs of their students this spring.
At Carberry, we deeply value the partnership between our educators and our families. Your involvement plays a pivotal role in your child's educational journey. Research consistently shows that when parents are actively engaged in their child's schooling, students thrive both academically and emotionally.
Your participation can take many forms, from helping with homework to attending parent-teacher conferences or volunteering for school events. Even simple conversations about your child's day and interests can make a significant impact. By staying connected and engaged, you strengthen the bridge between home and school, creating a more supportive and enriching environment for your child's growth.
We encourage you to take an active role in your child's education by:
Setting aside dedicated time for homework and reading at home.
Volunteering for classroom activities or school programs.
Engaging in conversations about your child's experiences and achievements at school.
Encouraging a positive attitude toward learning and school.
Your involvement not only reinforces the value of education but also demonstrates to your child that their schooling is a shared priority. Together, we can create a nurturing and empowering environment for our students to flourish.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to your child's education.
Warm regards,
Greg Alexander
Principal

News From the Nurse
Many parents are asking if they should keep their sick child at home? Please consider these guidelines:
¶ Fever greater than 100.0° F: The child can return to school after he/she has been fever free for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin).
¶ Diarrhea/Vomiting: A child with diarrhea and /or vomiting should stay at home and return to school only after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
¶ Persistent Cough &/or sore throat: Please consider keeping them home especially if they are unable to participate in class.
Keeping a sick child home prevents the spread of illness in school and allows the child an opportunity to rest and recover. Please call the school nurse if you have questions.
READY FOR KINDERGARTEN WORKSHOPS
NO TOYS ALLOWED AT SCHOOL
Parents, please make sure your students do NOT bring toys to school. Per our Student Handbook page 3, "The school will not be responsible for items lost, stolen, or broken. Therefore, electronic games or devices, cell phones, smart watches, toys, trading cards, skates, skateboards, etc. are not to be brought to school. Watches that are considered "smart" devices are not to be used and are considered a cellular device. If they are at school and become a problem, staff may take the item from the student and only return the item to parents.
