Weekly Updates from Principal Adkins
Week of May 11, 2026
Nighthawk Families,
- Happy Mother's Day to all of our Nighthawk mothers and those that serve in that role to our students!
- This is the last week: We hope you will take action based on applications in this newsletter. We want and need your input on the yearly Panorama Parent Survey linked below.
- This Thursday is our Spring Band Concert. We hope you can join us in the gym to hear the wonderful work of our Nighthawk students!
- We need the assistance of our school community! As we enter YEAR 5 and we continue to create our Nighthawk Legacy, our athletic team's uniforms and equipment are showing wear and tear from the first 4 years of our school. We are in GREAT NEED of donations to purchase new equipment and uniforms. Each year the school system provides enough funding to assist in paying for basics but it is not enough to maintain all equipment and definitely not purchase new uniforms. Please consider sharing the information in this newsletter with friends, family and business owners as no donation is too small. Every donation adds up to support our Nighthawk students. THANK YOU!
For your planning purposes, the EOG/EOC Testing Schedule can be found here. It is the expectation of the state of NC for all students to attend school and take these tests. The results are part of your student's permanent academic record.
Many updates, calendar dates, and information are available for your review and information below. Please be sure to scroll and read the entire newsletter.
With appreciation for your support and partnership as we are #RootedtoRISE in Year 4,
Anne Marie Adkins
Principal

Survey takes about 7 minutes
If you have children in multiple schools, it is beneficial if you share your experience with each school.
We’ve heard what you have to say and we are listening. We made changes to Family Engagement because of suggestions from last year’s survey.
Positivity Project at Herbert Akins Rd MS
Tracks 1: Love
Dear Families,
This week Track 1 will focus on the character strength of Love. Love means you value close relationships with others and being close to people.
Love is shown through our thoughts, feelings, and actions toward those we care about. When we love someone, we comfort them, make them feel safe, support them during tough times, and often put their needs before our own. When someone loves us, we feel safe and secure and can be ourselves around them. We miss them when they are not around.
Love is important for our community and society. We all depend on each other for happiness and well-being. Love creates positive feelings, helping to reduce loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Without love, we can't form strong bonds with our families, friends, or communities. A world without love would be a lonely and unsafe place.
To practice and encourage the character strength of love at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions.
Tracks 3 & 4: Perseverance
This week, Tracks 3 & 4
will focus on the character strength of Perseverance. Perseverance means completing what you start despite obstacles. It means never giving up.
People who show perseverance keep trying, even when they face challenges. They stay focused on their goals and work hard, even when things don't go as planned. Those who persevere often achieve great things because they don't quit. They also learn a lot and get better at what they do.
Perseverance can also inspire others. When one person in a group keeps going despite setbacks, it can motivate the whole team to keep trying and reach their goals.
To practice and encourage the character strength of perseverance at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions.
We need your help! Please consider and share with local businesses and friends.
