Also, please note that during these testing days that students WILL NOT be allowed to be picked up early from campus or allowed to sign out early from campus. Please help us in maintaining a secure testing environment for each of our students.

STAAR Testing Season Is Upon Us! (and TSI testing)

Jaguar Family,

STAAR testing is upon us! All 9th grade students will test in English I, Biology, and Algebra I, all 10th grade students will test in English II, and all 11th grade students will test in U.S. History. All STAAR testing dates for the semester are listed in the "Important Upcoming Dates", as well as below:

English I, Tuesday, April 5th (9th graders)

English II, Thursday, April 7th (10th graders)

Algebra I, Tuesday, May 3rd (9th graders)

Biology, Wednesday, May 4th (9th graders)

U.S. History, Thursday, May 5th (11th graders)

Please ensure that if you student is testing, that your student get's a good night's rest the day before, that they eat a good breakfast (or arrive to school within plenty of time to eat a good breakfast), and of course encourage your student to do their very best, that's all any of us can ever ask of someone!

Additionally, 12th grade students that have not passed the Math portion or English portion of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) will be testing on Tuesday, April 5th (math), and Thursday, April 7th (English). The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is part of the Texas Success Initiative enacted by the Texas State Legislature and designed to determine a student's readiness for college-level coursework in the general areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.

Competition Season is HERE!

In case you didn't know, all Blanson CTE students are encouraged to join a "Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) in their 9th and 10th grade year, and it is strongly encouraged to participate as an 11th grader and 12th grader. CTSOs are a great way to gain teamwork skills, make new friends, and build confidence. Each program of study has a specific CTSO that supports their curriculum. However, what is most exciting about CTSOs is that it gives students a chance to show off what they know!

This month, qualifying students will be attending the following competitions:

  • Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Conference & Competition
  • Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Conference & Competition
  • Technical Student Association (TSA) Conference & Competition

Transcripts

All seniors need to review and verify the information on their transcripts on SchooLinks or Home Access Center. When reviewing the information, seniors should be looking to make sure that they have received credit for the classes they've taken during their high school career, and should be looking out for any discrepancies. Should a senior have questions about the information on their transcript, their questions should be directed to their counselor via email.

Attendance Denial of Credit (No Grade Policy/NGs)

SUPER IMPORTANT: Course credits WILL be denied if a student has excessive absences--whether excused, unexcused, or medical does not matter. Students who have excessive absences should be in contact with Mrs. Zuniga, Attendance Clerk, and Ms. Sheffield, AP over Attendance. All make-up hours for to ensure that credit is not denied must be completed by March 11th for credits denied in the 2020-2021 school year, March 28th for credits denied last semester, and May 2nd for credits that are in danger of being denied for this semester.

Blanson Class of 2022 Graduation

Graduation will be held for Blanson's Class of 2022 on Saturday, May 28th at 1:30 pm at the M.O. Campbell Center (1865 Aldine Bender). At this time, we do not know the number of tickets each graduate will receive, however, when we do know, we will communicate this information to all graduating seniors and their parents.

Seniors! Check your email for important details about how to purchase your prom ticket!

Attendance Office Reminders & Updates

Attendance Denial of Credit (ADoC)

While we understand that many students have been absent due to circumstances beyond their control, the law does still require that all students attend school at least 90% of the time in order to be eligible to receive credit for their classes. As such, please help us to ensure that you student attends school on-time, every day.

  • When your student is absent, ensure that a note is turned into the attendance office within 3 days of returning back to school.
  • Make a habit of checking your student's attendance records in Home Access Center. Should there be discrepancies, have your student reach out to the teacher for the class where the absence occurred.
  • If contacted regarding "Attendance Denial of Credit" ensure that all requested paperwork and make-up hours are recorded and turned into Ms. Sheffield, Assistant Principal over attendance as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES

All make-up hours for previous semesters should have already been received by Ms. Sheffield's office. If you still owe make-u hours from the fall semester or last school year, please turn these in as soon as possible.

May 2nd

Make-up hours for credits that are in danger of being denied for THIS SEMESTER are due

Attendance Office Reminders

During regular school days the cut off time to pick up students early is 1:45 pm. We ask that all parents/guardians respect this policy as it becomes increasingly disruptive to the school day when students are picked up closer to dismissal time.

All parents/guardians who pick up students MUST be on the student's contact list in eSchool.

All parents/guardians must have an official form of identification to pick up a student.

Covid Related Illnesses

Dear Jaguars and Jaguar Parents/Caregivers

While we hope that you stay safe and healthy, in the event that you are sick/ill, this is a reminder that you need to stay home--regardless of if the illness is COVID related or not.

In the event that you think that you might have COVID and you are awaiting a COVID test result, you will need to stay home until the results come in. Once the results come in, regardless of if your test result is positive or negative, the very first thing that you need to do is to contact the nurse so she can advise you on next steps. AGAIN, you must contact the nurse PRIOR to returning to school, even if you have a negative test result.

As a proactive measure to help you keep up with school work, you may want to consider reaching out to your teachers and let them know what's going on. This way they can communicate with you about classwork and assignments.

Many students are concerned about being marked absent when they are at home sick. Please note that anytime you are not physically at school, you have to be marked absent and once you are marked absent an automatic dialer will contact your parents. There is nothing that can be done about preventing the calls that go out. Just know that once you are allowed to return to school, submit your absence note and our attendance clerk will code the absence accordingly. You can always check your attendance records using the Home Access Center. Should you have additional questions about student attendance, you can always email our attendance clerk, Mrs. Zuniga.
