Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season from all of us at Memorial School. Thank you for your continued partnership—your support at home, involvement in school events, and collaboration with our staff make a meaningful difference for our students. We appreciate everything you do to help your child learn, grow, and feel connected.

Things to Know:

Reports of Student Progress:

The end of January represents the end of the first marking period for elementary school students. ROSPs will be shared with families on January 30, 2026. Many families do not log into PowerSchool often and need reminders on how to access this platform. Here are instructions that can help you login and read your students ROSP form.

ACCESS:

Each year we collect information about student growth and success for children that are multi-lingual learners. Here is some information for parents so you are aware what is happenign at school. This parent letter outlines more information and this document is available in a number of languages if you scroll down.

  • What: ACCESS for ELLs is the annual English Language Proficiency assessment required by state and federal law.

    • Measures English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

    • Assesses social, academic, and discipline-specific language across content areas, aligned with grade-level content standards.

  • Who: All K–12 students identified as English Learners, including students who have opted out of the English Learner Education program, must participate.

  • When: January 5 – February 27, 2026.

Thank You!

Many students came into school ready for the cold after our last newsletter. Thank you! When temperatures are in the 20's and 30's it is important that our students are dressed appropriately for the weather. Your continued partnership is appreciated.

Reasons to Keep Your Child Home

Please keep your child home when they are ill. Attendance matters, but staying home to recover helps them feel better and prevents spreading germs.

Guidelines to help you decide:

  • Fever: Keep home for a fever of 100 degrees or higher. Return after being fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
  • Vomiting/Diarrhea: Stay home for 24 hours after the last episode.
  • Rashes: Keep home until a new or unidentified rash is evaluated and contagiousness is ruled out.
  • Pink Eye: Bacterial conjunctivitis is contagious and requires prescription treatment. Return after 24 hours on antibiotics.
  • Sore Throat/Cough: Monitor closely; stay home if symptoms worsen or a fever develops.
  • Cold/Flu: Stay home for a deep/uncontrolled cough or significant lack of energy. For flu-like illness (fever, cough, body aches), remain home at least 24 hours after fever-free without medication.
  • Covid-19: Per MDPH (April 2023), isolate for 5 days starting at day zero (first symptom day or positive test), for a total of 6 days at home.

Mild sniffles are okay for school if your child practices good hygiene (frequent handwashing and using an elbow or tissue). If you have concerns, consult your child’s pediatrician.
