From the Principal's Desk
As we move through April, it’s hard to believe how quickly the school year is flying by. We’re now heading into the final stretch, which is always an important time for our students. With the warmer weather finally here, it also brings a great opportunity for students to reset, refocus, and finish the year strong.
Our students continue to impress us every day with their resilience, creativity, and determination both in and out of the classroom. Whether it’s academics, athletics, performances, or involvement in our school community, they represent Keyport in a way we can all be proud of. This is also the time of year when students are preparing for final assessments, major projects, and post-secondary plans, so staying focused and finishing strong is key.
With the change in weather, I do want to take a moment to remind everyone about our dress code. While we all enjoy the warmer temperatures, it’s important to remember that our building is climate-controlled and school expectations remain the same. Students should continue to dress appropriately for a school setting each day.
I’d also like to thank our faculty and staff for everything they do to support our students. Their commitment, flexibility, and care truly make a difference. Thank you as well to our families for your continued partnership. Your support plays a big role in our students’ success.
As always, please stay connected for upcoming events, important dates, and opportunities to celebrate our students. Let’s keep the momentum going and make the rest of the school year a great one for everyone.

Creative Writing in Action: Students Learning from One Another
One of the most engaging sights at Keyport High School is stepping into a Creative Writing class during a workshop session. Rather than sitting quietly at their desks, students are actively moving around the room, collaborating with peers, and offering thoughtful feedback on one another’s work. This dynamic environment transforms writing from an individual task into a shared experience rooted in creativity, communication, and growth.
During these workshop rotations, students take on the role of both writer and editor, carefully reviewing their classmates’ pieces and providing constructive suggestions. This process not only helps improve each piece of writing but also strengthens students’ ability to think critically, articulate ideas, and reflect on their own work. By engaging in meaningful conversations about writing, students deepen their understanding of storytelling, voice, and structure.
The workshop model fosters a supportive classroom culture where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas and taking creative risks. It encourages collaboration, builds confidence, and highlights the value of peer learning. Experiences like these showcase the power of student-centered instruction and demonstrate how creativity and collaboration can come together to enhance the learning process.
Peer Leaders Supporting Student Wellness
At Keyport High School, our Peer Leaders continue to make a meaningful impact by working closely with freshmen to support their transition and overall well-being. Through small group conversations and guided activities, Peer Leaders help students learn strategies to regulate their nervous systems, manage stress, and build healthy habits for mental wellness.
These sessions create a safe and supportive space where freshmen can openly discuss challenges, ask questions, and connect with upperclassmen who understand their experiences. By focusing on topics such as stress management, emotional regulation, and self-awareness, students are gaining tools that will benefit them both inside and outside of the classroom.
The Peer Leadership program not only strengthens connections among students but also fosters a positive school culture centered on empathy, support, and communication. Through these efforts, Keyport High School continues to prioritize the mental health and well-being of all students.
Art in Action: Bringing Mask Sculptures to Life
Creativity and collaboration are on full display in Art 1 as students work together to bring their mask sculptures to life. Through partner-based projects, students are not only exploring artistic techniques but also learning how to communicate ideas, share responsibility, and support one another throughout the creative process.
Working in pairs allows students to exchange feedback, problem-solve, and refine their designs as they transform their concepts into finished pieces. From shaping and detailing to painting and final touches, each step reflects both individual creativity and collaborative effort.
These mask sculptures highlight the power of teamwork in the arts, as well as the importance of creativity, expression, and perseverance. Projects like this showcase how students can bring imagination to life while building skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Creating, Collaborating, and Thinking Critically with Technology
Technology at Keyport High School continues to evolve in ways that empower students to become creators, collaborators, and critical thinkers. Beyond staying organized, students are now using digital tools to design, analyze, and communicate their ideas in more meaningful and engaging ways.
🔹 Design & Creativity with Google Slides and Canva
Students are taking presentations to the next level by incorporating design elements, animations, and visual storytelling. These tools allow students to present their thinking in creative formats that go beyond traditional assignments.
🔹 Real-Time Collaboration & Feedback
With shared documents and live editing features, students are working together more efficiently than ever. Teachers can provide immediate feedback, while peers collaborate on projects, helping to build communication and teamwork skills.
🔹 Responsible Use of Technology
Digital citizenship continues to be a focus, with students learning how to use technology responsibly, evaluate online sources, and protect their digital footprint. These skills are essential for success both in school and beyond.
🔹 Interactive Review & Assessment Tools
Teachers are incorporating platforms that provide instant feedback and interactive questioning, allowing students to check for understanding in real time and adjust their learning strategies.
🔹 Career-Ready Technology Skills
From coding basics to digital communication, students are developing skills that prepare them for future careers. Technology is being used not just as a tool, but as a pathway to explore interests in fields like business, design, and computer science.
Small Acts of Kindness = Big Health Benefits
As the weather warms up and students spend more time outdoors, it is important to stay mindful of health and wellness. Higher temperatures and increased activity levels mean our bodies need extra care to stay energized and focused throughout the school day. Staying hydrated is key, and students are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle and drink water consistently, especially during physical activity. With spring temperatures often fluctuating, dressing in layers can help students remain comfortable from cooler mornings to warmer afternoons. Proper nutrition also plays an important role, as balanced meals and healthy snacks help maintain energy levels throughout the day. As time outside increases, practicing sun safety by using sunscreen and wearing protective gear can help prevent sunburn. Spring is also a great opportunity to stay active, whether through sports or outdoor activities, while remembering to take breaks and stay hydrated. Finally, maintaining a consistent sleep routine remains essential, even with longer daylight hours, to ensure students are well-rested and ready to learn.
Attendance Matters: Finish Strong
As we enter the final three months of the school year, it is more important than ever for students to stay focused and finish strong. Regular school attendance continues to play a critical role in student success, especially as courses build toward final assessments, projects, and end-of-year goals. Missing even a few days during this time can make it difficult to keep up with instruction and fully demonstrate learning.
At Keyport High School, we encourage all students to remain committed to attending school each day, arriving on time, and staying engaged in their classes. These final months are an opportunity to reinforce progress, build confidence, and end the year on a positive note. Every day matters, and being present ensures that students are setting themselves up for success now and into the future.
