PRINCIPAL FIERRO-KIN'S MESSAGE
Dear Gayle Middle School Families,
Today we officially launched our school-wide fundraiser. Students brought home the Golden Ticket flyer, and a copy is included in this newsletter for your reference. Our school code is PLMKM. We appreciate your support in helping us raise funds for this year’s School Field Day and other student activities.
Your generosity has a direct impact on our school. Last year, the money raised helped us purchase a much-needed scorekeeper’s table for athletics and provided funds for other important materials throughout the building. These contributions make a real difference for our students and staff, and we are excited to see what we can accomplish together this year.
I also want to remind families about Chromebook insurance and device responsibilities. This is a procedure required across Stafford County Public Schools.
Students with insurance receive a loaner device while their Chromebook is being repaired.
Students without insurance must wait until their assigned device is repaired and returned.
We understand the inconvenience this may cause for families. Teachers will do their best to provide printed copies of assignments, but some tasks cannot be replicated outside of the digital platform. Even so, students remain responsible for completing and submitting all work by the end of the grading period.
We are also adjusting to these new expectations and procedures and will continue to share information with you as it comes to us. Please know that we will always work with the best interests of students in mind, and we will do everything possible to support their success and limit interruptions to instruction. This is also why it is most important for students to take great care of their computers each day.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our Panthers prepared, connected, and supported. Your efforts at home make a real difference here at school.
Sincerely,
Deanna Fierro-Kin

Suicide Prevention Week at GMS
In recognition of Suicide Prevention Week, GMS Guidance Counselors and the GM PTA collected positivity links, with help from our English teachers, who encouraged students to write something positive about themselves or others. Together, we collected nearly 700 links!
This initiative brought our community together to show support, kindness, and care. Each day, our Panthers stand united, reminding one another that no one is ever alone.
Chalk the Walk for Awareness
Mrs. Carter’s and Ms. McKenzie's art classes brought color and encouragement to our campus this week by decorating the sidewalks with uplifting and supportive messages for Suicide Prevention Week. Their thoughtful artwork not only brightened our walkways but also served as a reminder that kindness, hope, and connection can make a powerful difference.
Library - 3D Printing
Gayle students are invited to learn how to use the library's 3D printers by designing their own creations this year. Students can attend a lunch time session to learn more about 3D design and printing by signing up for the class in their student email or visiting the library. Lunch sessions will begin next week.

Bell Schedule & Lunch
The following is our regular bell schedule. Students are assigned to lunch based on their 3rd Block teacher. If your student has different teachers for 3X and 3Y, their lunchtime may change depending on the day. If you need to drop off a lunch for your student, we recommend doing so at the start of 3rd Block to help ensure it reaches them in time for their scheduled lunch.

Medication Drop-Off Instructions
If your child requires medication during the school day, it must be brought to the clinic by a parent or guardian. All medications must be in their original, labeled container and accompanied by the required Stafford County Public Schools medication form. Students may not carry medications on their own unless specifically authorized for emergency use (such as an inhaler or EpiPen). Please contact our school nurse for any questions or to schedule a drop-off time.

Early Dismissal Procedure Update
For safety reasons, we will no longer pull students from class in advance based on a phone call from a parent or guardian. All adults entering the building for early dismissal must present a valid photo ID at the entrance before the student will be called from class.
Please plan your arrival time accordingly, as it may take a few minutes for your child to be dismissed once you arrive. This process helps us ensure that every student is released safely. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Suicide Prevention Awareness at Gayle Middle
This month, Gayle Middle is highlighting suicide prevention through kindness, connection, and supportive activities.
During Suicide Prevention Week, students will participate in events that encourage reaching out, supporting friends, and knowing that help is always available. If you prefer your student not participate in certain activities, or would like a counselor to connect with them individually, please contact:
- Tracy Williams – 6th Grade | williamstd@staffordschools.net
- Virginia Clemo – 7th Grade | clemova@staffordschools.net
- Adam Fulton – 8th Grade | fultonam@staffordschools.net
Together, we can create a safe and caring school community for all students.
We’re excited to have you volunteer and contribute to our school community! Below is an overview of our volunteer procedures to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all.
Background Check Requirements:
Most volunteers do not need a criminal background check but will go through our RAPTOR system for screening against sex offender registries. Background checks are required only in specific situations.
Volunteers Who Need A Background Check:
- Volunteer coaches.
- Chaperones for overnight field trips.
- Volunteers supervising students independently, without an SCPS staff member present.
Volunteers Who Don’t Need A Background Check (RAPTOR Check Required):
- Helping in the front office, cafeteria, or during events.
- Reading or assisting in classrooms.
- Day field trip chaperones where SCPS staff members are present.
Process For Background Checks:
For the small number of volunteers requiring a background check:
- Pick up a Fingerprinting Request for Volunteers form, signed by a school administrator.
- Provide valid identification, such as a driver’s license.
- Contact Mayra Torres to schedule an appointment.
- Background checks usually take 48-72 hours but may take up to three weeks in some cases. Please plan accordingly.
