Wondering about our iPad program? Learn more!
As the school year begins, this fall might be the first time your child is using an iPad for school work. Or maybe this coming winter might be the first time your 3rd-grader takes home their school-issued device.
We know parents can have many questions about the use of technology at school. We want to answer them so you can best understand what your child is learning in class, and and how you can support that at home.
We have created a series of five videos that share in detail how iPads are used to support and enhance learning in the classroom; how our Digital Citizenship program works and helps prepare students for the online world; and how you can still honor your own household rules on tech use. '
Please click below to watch the first video and click here to explore a parent handbook that also answers frequent questions on our One-to-One iPad program.
In the coming weeks, please watch this newsletter as we continue highlight the rest of the video series. Thank you for your partnership in helping our students become responsible digital navigators!
Kindergarten speech and language screenings
On Tuesday, September 8, Wescott Speech-Language Pathologists will be conducting universal speech screenings for all kindergarten students. Additional screenings for concerns related to receptive language, expressive language, voice, or fluency will be available at parent and/or teacher request.
Please contact Amber Price (aprice@district30.org), Ellen Schulte (eschulte@district30.org), Amy McDonald (amcdonald@district30.org), or your child’s teacher if you have concerns in any of these areas.
Parents will be notified if any concerns are identified as a result of the articulation screening and/or if speech-language support or further evaluation is recommended.

✅ NEW school visitor procedure
When members of the public, including parents and siblings, have reason to visit our building during regular hours of operation, they must enter through the main entrance and check in with the front desk. All visitors to school property are required to:
Report to the main entrance
Show proper identification
Clear the district’s security screening identification system
Wear a visitor badge in a manner that is visible to all employees and students at all times when on school property and
Return the issued visitor badge upon departure from the building
This step-by-step guide can help you prepare for a visit or to check out a child during the school day using our new system. Additional visitor information can be found in the District 30 Student-Parent Handbook on page 10.
MAP testing continues through Sept. 15
The district's online adaptive assessment, Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), is now being administered to all students in grades 1-8. The MAP testing window will runs through September 15. Students in grades 2-8 will take two assessments: reading and mathematics. Grade 1 will take mathematics only. Please check with your child's teacher about their testing schedule to avoid conflicts if appointments need to be scheduled during this time.
These assessment results will continue to be used (1) by teachers to assist them in differentiating lessons in reading/language arts and mathematics; as well as (2) to measure student academic growth. Students' fall assessment reports will be made available to parents later in the school year.
