What is Decision Day?

Decision
Day is the culminating annual event in HSSL college and career readiness program. Formerly known as, "College Signing Day" the High School for Service and Learning has expanded its core values and mission to have all students, employed, enrolled, or enlisted upon graduation.

Decision Day is the final celebration in the #CollegeCareerReady trilogy at HSSL. It begins in early october with #iApplied

In the #iApplied phase we display, announce, and celebrate the colleges or technical programs our seniors have applied to.

In the early spring we enter the #I'mAccepted phase where we announce and display the schools our seniors have been accepted to.

Finally in the late spring we have a whole school celebratory event, "Decision Day' is held in the auditorium. There's food, a DJ, games and raffles. Seniors, along with our guidance counselors come on stage and announce their decisions alongside a projected powerpoint presentation. There is a signing ceremony where students sign off on their decisions as a commitment to themselves and their futures. In the past we have had an HSSL alumni as a keynote speaker, this year we wanted to extend an invitation to our superintendent to highlight and celebrate the senior class with the most college acceptances in the 5 years.

We invited parents and families to join us in person! For those who cannot attend, the event will live streamed on the school's social media platforms.

June Regents Exam Schedule June Regents Exam Schedule

Just a note to parents and families regarding summer school. Typically New York City public High Schools do not send out summer school notices until after June regents exam adminstration is complete for all students.

This is the only way we can know for certain that a student will need to be mandated for summer school.

With that in mind, the last regents exam will administered on Wednesday, June 25th. Summer notices will be sent out some time thereafter. If your child has failed any classes in semester 1 marking period 3 or semester 2 marking period 3, and did not pass their regents exams in June it is highly likely that they will be mandated for summer school.

The class of 2025 Senior Awards Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 28th at 5:30pm at BKLYN Commons located at 495 Flatbush Avenue [Bet. Washington Ave & Empire Blvd]. Senior awards is by invitation only! Honorees received their invitations May 7th.

The Youthbridge Brooklyn Fellowship Program brings together 10th and 11th graders from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds to develop leadership skills through a dynamic blend of workshops and community projects designed to inspire and equip them for future challenges and opportunities. We foster a supportive and collaborative environment that nurtures the next generation of leaders to make a positive impact in our community.

We are actively recruiting for our 2025-2026 cohort. Can you help us by spreading the word? You can find more information about the program and the application on our website. Iโ€™ve also attached a flyer that you can print or email to students, parents, youth organizations, and community groups.

The deadline to apply is May 30.

Please donโ€™t hesitate to reach out with any questions. I can be reached at 332 228 4967
