Lamoille North In-District Transfer Policy & Procedure

While we are well past the 2024-2025 deadline, as a reminder for future years, families wishing to transfer their child to a different Lamoille North Modified Unified Union School District (LNMUUSD) elementary school must complete the In-District Transfer Student Application Form. Applicable elementary schools include Eden Central School, Hyde Park Elementary School, Johnson Elementary School and Waterville Elementary School.

Several factors are taken into consideration before approving an in-district transfer. In-district transfers are not guaranteed. Transfer student applications must be approved on a nondiscriminatory basis. The Superintendent shall work with building administrators to determine available transfer slots. Determining factors may include, but are not limited to, new sibling transfers, impact on class size, or impact on staffing, at both the sending and receiving schools. If there are more applicants than remaining available slots in any given receiving school or grade level, a blind lottery shall be used to select students for transfer approval. Please see the In-District Transfer Policy HERE.

The form is available on the LNSU website and must be submitted to the LNSU Central Office by April 15 each calendar year. Applications received past this deadline will not be accepted or reviewed.

If a student is approved for a standard in-district transfer, it is the responsibility of the family to arrange for transportation to their new school building. The district does not provide transportation for these transfers.

Community Forum Update

In January, we held a very successful forum attended by over 50 parents, community members, and educators. That night, the attendees were divided into four breakout groups to answer the following questions our school:

  1. What is working at JES?
  2. What is your vision / dream for JES?
  3. What ideas do you have for how the school can support that dream becoming a reality?
  4. What role can the parents play in supporting this vision / dream?

You can read all of the wonderful ideas discussed by our community members and educators in these combined notes from all of the groups.

Over the past few weeks, our school leadership team has been hard at work reviewing these ideas to determine good next steps. We have grouped all of the ideas into themes and prioritized them based on the amount of time it will take to implement them. We are looking at ideas such as structuring classes to reduce screen time and ensuring frequent school to home communications that include pictures and stories of children engaged in fun learning activities. You can read about the work of the leadership team in these notes from our meetings.

We welcome your input into this work as we strive to make JES the best school it can be.

MAP Testing Update

Our Winter MAP Testing is complete. All of our students have now been assessed in their literacy and math skills at the start of the year and the middle of the year. These two data points allow us to measure the progress students are making. Today we are sending home certificates with every student who experienced growth at the 80th percentile nationally. This means these students have made more academic gains than 80% of the students in the country who took the MAP test. We are excited to celebrate the hard work of these students!

This year, Act 139 directs schools to inform parents of students in grade K-3 if they are significantly below grade level expectations for their reading level. Please note that it is possible for a student to make tremendous growth but still be well below their grade level, so some students might receive both the great growth notification today and the below reading level notification we send home next week. But, if they keep making greater than average growth they will catch up quickly.
