New Social Studies TEKS Implementation 2024-2025
The revised and updated social studies TEKS are now live and being implemented in classrooms across Texas! All changes have been finalized and posted as of August 1st. For a comparative view of the standards, the Crosswalks are super helpful. They give you a quick view of TEKS that have been added, revised, or renumbered.
In an effort to save time, all crosswalks have been collected and stored in a shared folder. Just click the image below to find the crosswalk for your content area!

The Addition of Skills Matrices
NEW!! You can now view the skills strand in a matrix that outlines the vertical alignment of each standard. These are such a helpful resource for PLC and/or vertical planning and allow you to see skill development across grade bands!
NEW STANDARDS: Foundational Language and Civil Discourse
NEW!! In light of the added standard that wraps expectations for language skills and civil discourse into social studies instruction across grade bands, TEA has released a definition for civil discourse in an effort to help clarify what this might look like in classrooms.

Language Objectives
There has been training for administrators and lead teachers on implementing Language Objectives in your classrooms. Below are some resources that will help you with the process of developing language objectives.
Learn & Turn
This set of Learn & Turns are created based on low performing high frequency TEKS with in the first nine weeks. They will help you understand student misconceptions with not only how it is tested but the standard itself. I then go into the ripple effect of what will happen if students do not grasp the concept. These videos are housed in Schoology. Please see the pictures below to find the location of the videos for 8th grade and 11th grade. Please view and discuss in your PLCs.
Supplemental Aides
One way to help spiral is to have student anchor their understandings of the events of U.S. History in a timeline storyboard. We have gotten approval for a storyboard without words to be used as a supplemental aide for students with accommodations. Students without accommodations can use a blank sheet of paper and brain dump these symbols and words on to this document. The best use for this would for students to have the supplemental aide in the front of their notebook and they fill in the words as they progress through the year. During each progress check, assessment or bench mark you can provide each student with the wordless supplemental aide and they can brain dump what they know on it so as to anchor their thinking in a linear fashion. See the attachments below. The world-less supplemental aide along with the answer key can also be found in the Social Studies folder of the Secondary Curriculum and Instruction Schoology group.
