Our Lady of Good Counsel School
Term 3 Week 8 Newsletter

PRAYER
We ask:
Receive our prayer, O God.
May we work toward achieving unity and peace.
Striving to end judgments and divisions caused by politics.
May we become as God sees us — a united flock caring and
concerned for each other's well-being, shepherding and guiding
each other toward health and happiness.
Amen
NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE
Dear Families,
With the sun gracing us more often these days, it’s been wonderful to see the renewed energy among our students as they move around the school. This term is full of exciting activities, and I know our Year 1–4 students are eagerly counting down the days until swimming lessons begin—especially our Year 1 students, who will experience swimming for the first time.
This afternoon, I’ve been invited to present at the CEWA Beginning Principals program to share my journey with newly appointed Principals in the CEWA system. I feel honoured to have been asked to speak, and preparing for this presentation has given me a chance to reflect on the past two years. It wasn’t long ago that I was in their position, wondering about the road ahead at OLGC. I am deeply grateful for the privilege of leading our dedicated staff, students, and families, and this reflection fills me with excitement for all that lies ahead as we continue to grow together as a community.
Quality Catholic School School Review (QCESR) and Principal Review process
This term, Our Lady of Good Counsel School participated in the QCESR and Principal Review process, a comprehensive evaluation designed to assess our school’s performance across key areas: Catholic Identity, Education, Community, and Stewardship. As part of this process, we prepared and submitted a detailed report reflecting our efforts in these areas. The review also included insights gathered through a Leadership 360 survey, as well as small-group and individual interviews with school leadership, staff, students, CSAC members, the P&F Executive, and the Parish Priest.
A panel, comprising a CEWA-appointed Chair, our School Improvement Advisor, a Peer Principal, and a CEWA Consultant, led this rigorous review. I am delighted to share that the school received an overwhelmingly positive report, a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our entire school community. I’ve included a few key quotes from the report below:
- "Decisions at Our Lady of Good Counsel School are made with the best interests of the child as a priority and are not self-promoting to any group or party within the school.
- "An educational community of excellence in which culture, pedagogy and practice is fostered is evident at Our Lady of Good Counsel School. There is a clear understanding of what is expected of staff and staff feel safe to have open conversations about teaching and learning with each other and leadership in structured PLC, cluster meetings, 1:1 meetings and incidental conversations."
- The school promotes its values extensively throughout the community and these are visually present in the environment. A number of data sources spoke about the inclusive community at Our Lady of Good Counsel School and the respect that is held for one another."
- The staff at Our Lady of Good Counsel School are a close-knit and committed group, working with determination to achieve the school’s strategic goals. There is a strong sense of both personal and collective efficacy, with staff members feeling empowered and actively engaged in driving school improvement efforts."
Annual Community Meeting (ACM)
Please be advised that the School and P&F ACM that is scheduled for Tuesday 26 November has been postponed until next year. The new date has been set for Friday 21 February 2025, prior to the Family Welcome Event. Voting for the P&F Executive Committee will take place during this meeting, along with reports being presented from myself, CSAC Chair, CSAC Treasurer, P&F President and P&F Treasurer. Further details regarding times will be shared in the new year.
P&F Executive Committee
I extend my sincere thanks to Josephine Germano (President), Jennifer Warner (Treasurer) and Lisa Leonard (Secretary) for the dedication to our OLGC P&F as Executive members. As they have now served their 2-year term, as per the terms of reference, they are now required to renominate for their positions on the Executive. For full information regarding membership with the P&F including Executive roles, please refer to the Terms of Reference HERE.
Every parent / guardian of an enrolled student at the school is automatically a general member of the P&F and is encouraged to attend meetings and be involved as often as they can. However, if there is any interest in taking on a role within the Executive of the P&F, you are asked to please complete this nomination form by 29 November 2024.
P&F 2024
A huge thank you to the very dedicated members of our P&F Committee for their efforts in fundraising this year. The major 2024 fundraiser "Bogan Bingo" raised $6600. This amount, together with funds raised through the P&F levy has been put to very good use this year. The school has recently used P&F funds to renovate a large garden bed area outside the library and art room, into a Wellbeing Break-out space. The addition of decking to the area has created a great covered space that students can play games on during breaks, and teachers can utilise for small group learning activities. The funds also allowed for the replacement of the clear pergola sheeting covering this area, which was severely degraded.
Further, a new water pump has been installed to the Nature Playground creating a very popular water play area for all students. This has been very well used these past few weeks by students from Pre-Kindy right through to Year 6.
These projects would not have been possible without the fundraising efforts of the P&F and the support of our community in this. Many thanks to everyone!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Lisa

NEWS FROM MRS BARFOOT
REMEMBRANCE DAY
On 11th November, we observed Remembrance Day, a solemn occasion to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces. Thank you to the Year 6 class for facilitating our Prayer Assembly that allowed us to remember the men and women who gave their lives to protect the freedoms we enjoy today.
This day also served as an important reminder to teach our students about the values of peace, respect, and gratitude. Through classroom discussions and activities, we aim to deepen their understanding of the sacrifices made by those who came before us. Together as a school community, we reflected on the importance of working towards a peaceful world and holding in our hearts those who fought for it.
Lest we forget.

Second hand Uniforms – Facebook: OLGC Uniforms – Sale or Swap page
Kids just grow so fast! Do you have outgrown uniforms that could benefit another family? Maybe you're hunting for a spare polo shirt or some extra buttons?
Here at OLGC we have a second-hand uniform sale or swap page on Facebook. This is a closed group for the OLGC families who wish to sell, swap, or provide free uniforms to our school community.
To join simply click here or search on Facebook for "OLGC Uniforms – Sale or Swap".
It is important that all sales and swaps are done without consuming the precious resources of the school. Please contact each other directly and don't ask the office to hold items awaiting pick up.
