Maugham Moments
October 2025 Newsletter
A Word from Mrs. Loor
Dear Maugham Families,
We are officially done with our first month of school! We've had a fantastic transition back. Thank you so much for attending Back to School Night. I truly hope you walked away with more information about your child's school day. I enjoyed meeting many of you.
We're looking forward to our Week of Respect Theme Days and assemblies. A huge thank you to the HSA for their support in funding all of the fun assemblies we have planned throughout the year.
Please make sure you read the below for more information about our Halloween parade and festivities! We will continue to send out reminders throughout the month.
For those of you who celebrate, I wish you a meaningful Yom Kippur.
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor
October is National Bullying Prevention Month
At Maugham, we are excited to engage our students all month long during National Bullying Prevention Month. Throughout October, students can look forward to daily announcements, fun activities, classroom lessons, and special assemblies - all designed to promote kindness, respect, and a safe school environment.
National Bullying Prevention Month kicks off with The Week of Respect - October 6-10, 2025! This special week is all about promoting kindness, empathy, and positive relationships in our school community. It's a time to reflect on how we treat others and how we can make our school a safe, respectful, and welcoming place for everyone.
Our Week of Respect Assemblies will take place on Thursday, October 9th — a wonderful opportunity to come together and reflect on how we can make our school a welcoming place for all. (This assembly is for students only.)
Let’s work together to make this October a month full of respect, kindness, and positivity at Maugham!
Week of Respect Theme Days October 6-10th
To make things even more exciting, we’re adding Fun Theme Days throughout the week! Each day will feature a different theme to help us show our school spirit and commitment to respect in a creative way.
Student Council
As I shared with the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and their families, Ms. Meehan and I amended the Student Council structure to allow for more effective and productive meetings and projects.
Please read this letter for more information.
Governor's Educator of the Year Nominations
Do you know a classroom teacher or educational services professional who is dedicated, inspiring and makes a difference? Please recommend this person for the Governor's Educator of the Year Program by completing this [nomination form.]
Please submit your nominations by October 24th. We look forward to hearing from our parents and students!
Forgotten Items
This is a friendly reminder that we are working towards reducing drop-offs for homework, books, instruments, and other personal or school items. The teachers/staff will work with the student to modify expectations for the day.
As stated in our school handbook, when a student forgets an item for school, it presents an opportunity to learn from the experience. It’s a chance to help children understand that while it might feel like it could ruin their day, it’s actually a manageable setback - and one they’re capable of handling. Children during these elementary years are beginning to learn to take responsibility and accountability for their daily actions.
- Lunch drop-off is for emergency use only. If forgetting becomes habitual, other arrangements will have to be made.
- Exceptions for drop-offs are cell phones or items needed for medical reasons, which includes eyeglasses or hearing aids. Cell phones or other smart devices that are dropped off will be given to the student at the end of the day.
- We will take into consideration the developmental needs of our students when receiving items that have been forgotten.
To reduce interruptions to students and staff and maintain building security, we appreciate your support with this practice.
Halloween Ahead!
This year, our much-anticipated annual Halloween parade will be held on Friday, October 31st, from 2:45 PM to 3:05 PM. Students will be dismissed at their regular dismissal times and locations.
Please be sure to review all the important details and complete the required Halloween Permission Form, which can be found in our special Halloween Newsletter.
