Happy Friday, Davis Families!

It is so hard to believe that school starts in just two and a half weeks! I hope you have all had a wonderful summer...and are able to soak up the last few days.

We are looking forward to the start of a new school year. Davis is always at its best when the students are here 😁

Our office staff returned this week, so the office is open 8am-3pm until school starts.

To our new Davis families -- I will send out a newsletter every Friday. This is where you will get all of the information you need about the happenings at Davis and within Dublin Schools. Please make sure that you take a few minutes each week to read through the information.

Please see below for important back to school information. Feel free to reach out with any questions! We look forward to seeing you all soon.

Go Irish!

Jaime

The Cell Phone Law

A new law was enacted in Ohio this summer that bans cell phone use in schools in Ohio other than for emergencies or when a student needs a cell phone for medical reasons, with proper documentation. This is not much of a change for us at Davis as our district rule for middle schools is "Away for the Day."

Students will be required to place their phones on do not disturb/silent, or completely off, and placed in their backpack from the time they enter the building until they leave for the day. This information will be reiterated to the students, but we ask that you start sharing this expectation with them now. Thank you!

Spring 2026 8th Grade Washington, DC Trip

Incoming 8th Grade Families,

This is just a reminder that it is time to register your student with Prodigy Travel if they will be joining the Washington, DC trip next May. It is a year away, but we like to give our families plenty of time to plan for the expense of the trip. We have urged students who are interested to work to help with the cost of the trip...it may help them appreciate it that much more! Mowing, mulching or pulling weeds in the summer, raking leaves in the fall, and shoveling snow in the winter in the neighborhood are all good ways to get started.

Here is the link to all of the DC information including the Prodigy website to create an account, register for the trip, and make payments.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Ms. Wilhelm, 8th grade team lead and DC advisor.

Don't Forget about Summer Reading!

Dublin City Schools believes that reading is a key to success in all areas. While middle and high school students have required reading, all students are encouraged to read all summer long.

6th Grade Orientation

6th Grade Orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 12 from 6-8 PM.

From 6-6:25 pm check in to get student name tag and schedule, visit tables in the commons, and explore the building.

By 6:25 pm, students should report to their 3rd period classroom, parents/guardians/adults report to the gymnasium.

From 6:30-7:15 pm, students will be with their teachers and adults will be with the admins, counselors, team leads.

At 7:15 pm we will have a staggered dismissal for students and adults to find each other.

Following this, there is time for families to visit the PTO/school supplies table, fill out forms if needed, and explore the building.

During orientation, students will tour and learn important aspects of the building. There will be time for them to walk their schedule. The schedule walkthrough on Wednesday, August 13 is not mandatory, but is another time that students can come walk their schedule if they would like to feel more comfortable on the first day of school.

If you or your student are not able to attend orientation or walkthrough, please try not to worry. They will learn all of the information shared during the first days of school. They will have tons of help finding their classrooms. We will take great care of them! šŸ’š

Breakfast/Lunch Information

Part of the back to school routine is making sure that your student has a current Pay Schools account for breakfast and lunch. You can also fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Application for your students. Apply online through PaySchools Central or use one of our printable forms (translated in multiple languages) to submit your information.

Meal Prices Add Up! Apply Now for Free/Reduced School Meals

Check a back-to-school box off your list by going ahead and filling out the Free and Reduced Meal Application for your students. Easily apply online through PaySchools Central.

Why apply?

  • It can lower or waive technology fees.

  • It connects families to additional resources and support.

  • It ensures your student gets a healthy meal at school every day.

  • It helps reduce or prevent meal account debt, which carries over from year to year.

Note: Students with negative meal account balances will receive a standard school meal, but they won’t be able to purchase extra (ā€œa la carteā€) items.

The Food Services team works closely with school principals to notify families and help manage account balances. Once a student’s meal charges reach $25 or more, you’ll receive automated phone calls as a reminder to add funds. Applying for Free & Reduced Meals is the best way to avoid accumulating a growing balance.
