Welcome to Week 5
October 5 - October 9, 2026
Dear AFA Community:
Week 5 at AFA
We are heading into Week 5 at Augsburg Fairview Academy, which means we have reached the midquarter point of Quarter 1.
Students have spent the first several weeks building routines, strengthening relationships, and settling into their classes. This is a good time for students and families to pause, look at academic progress, celebrate what is going well, and identify any areas where additional support may be needed. Our focus this quarter remains Belonging—helping every student feel known, supported, connected, and part of the AFA community.
Midquarter Week
This week marks the midpoint of Quarter 1. We encourage families to check in with their student about how classes are going, what they feel good about, and where they may need some additional help. Students should also be checking PowerSchool regularly and talking with their teachers about grades, missing assignments, and opportunities to improve before the end of the quarter. If your student needs additional time or support, Friday Work Lab is a great opportunity to get caught up, complete missing work, and work directly with AFA staff.
Fall Academic Conferences – Wednesday, October 14
AFA Fall Academic Conferences will be held Wednesday, October 14, from 9:00 AM–7:00 PM. Conferences are scheduled in 20-minute blocks and may be held in person, virtually, or by phone.
All teachers and staff who support your child will be present to review academic progress, celebrate successes, and identify next steps for the remainder of the quarter. Families wanting a more detailed review of graduation progress or credit needs are encouraged to schedule a separate one-on-one meeting with Ms. Kelly J.

Friday Reminder
Fridays are asynchronous learning days. Students may come to AFA for Friday Work Lab from 10:00 AM–3:00 PM for academic support, help completing assignments, or a quiet place to get caught up. With midquarter here, we especially encourage students who are behind in a class or have missing assignments to take advantage of Friday Work Lab.
Vape Prevention Reminder
We want to continue reminding families that vaping and possession of vaping devices are not allowed at AFA. Please take a few minutes to talk with your student about making healthy choices and helping us keep our shared spaces comfortable, safe, and focused on learning. If your student needs support around vaping or nicotine use, please feel free to reach out.
See Something? Let Us Know
Keeping AFA safe is a shared responsibility. If you have a concern about a safety issue, incident, or possible threat involving our school, you can use our Anonymous Safety Report Form at any time.
Reports are anonymous, and we take all concerns seriously.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us and support your student. Midquarter is a great time to celebrate the progress students have already made and help them refocus on what they want to accomplish during the second half of Quarter 1.
Warmly,
Ms. Heidi

National Hispanic Heritage Month
From September 15–October 15, we celebrate Hispanic American Heritage Month and recognize the histories, cultures, contributions, and achievements of Hispanic and Latino communities.
At AFA, we are proud to honor the identities, traditions, and experiences our students and families bring to our school community.
October is LGBTQ+ History Month
October is LGBTQ+ History Month, a time to recognize the contributions, resilience, and stories of LGBTQ+ people throughout history. Founded in 1994 by Missouri teacher Rodney Wilson, the month also includes National Coming Out Day on October 11.
At AFA, we honor those who have helped advance equity and inclusion and remain committed to creating a school where every student feels seen, valued, and safe to be who they are.
Week 5 Breakfast & Lunch Menu
Free Breakfast & Lunch at AFA
AFA is a Community Eligibility Provision school, so all students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. It is still important for families to complete the Alternative Application for Educational Benefits, which is linked below. This application can help bring in additional funding to AFA to increase educational opportunities.
Fall Academic Conferences - Wednesday, October 14
Fall Academic Conferences are held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 from 9am - 7pm. Academic Conferences are a chance for families to meet with AFA faculty and staff and get a quick picture of how their student is doing so far this school year.
Conferences are scheduled in 20-minute time slots and can be held in person, virtually, or over the phone. During the conference, families will meet with their student’s teachers to hear a brief update on class progress, strengths, concerns, and any areas where additional support may be helpful.
Families will also receive a brief update on their student’s progress toward graduation. If you would like a more detailed review of credits, graduation requirements, or postsecondary planning, we recommend scheduling a separate meeting with Kelly J., AFA’s Academic Advisor.
Because conference appointments are limited and have filled quickly in past years, we ask families who sign up to please arrive or log in on time so we can stay on schedule and make room for as many families as possible.
Do You Have Your PowerSchool Portal Login Info?
PowerSchool is the best way to stay up to date with your student’s progress. Through the online portal, students and families can check grades, track attendance, and see assignments in real time. We encourage all families to log in regularly to celebrate successes and address challenges early.
If you don’t yet have a login, please contact the AFA main office and we’ll help you get set up.
Transportation Updates
Augsburg Fairview Academy (AFA) has updated its transportation plan for the 2026–2027 school year. Please review the transportation options below and complete the transportation survey as soon as possible. Student transportation assignments are based on several factors, including age, safety, medical needs, and availability.
We will do our best to accommodate family preferences, but transportation selections are not guaranteed.
