Summer 2025: From Graduation to Registration...it's been a sweet ride!

It was a great day for our program, where we recognized 98 graduates, with 48 Career Ready-Honors, and 23 new members of the National Adult Education Honor Society. During our summer session in June, we were able to add 14 more, so our total for 2024-2025 is 112 Graduates! We are so proud of all of you, and hope you continue to "Embrace Your Story" and "Go forward in the direction of your dreams."

What's (Been) Going On @ F1AE?
Celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week – May 5th–9th
We had the joy of celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week from May 5 through May 9! It was a special time to honor the hard work, dedication, and heart our teachers and staff pour into our students every single day.
Throughout the week, our school leadership team showed their gratitude by presenting staff with a thoughtful gift each day, as a small token of appreciation for their commitment to education and student success.
The highlight of the week was a staff luncheon on May 7, where everyone came together to enjoy great food, fellowship, and a moment to simply feel celebrated.
To all our incredible educators and support staff: thank you for all you do. Your impact is lasting, and you are truly appreciated—not just this week, but all year long.
Mental Health Awareness – Green Out Day on May 14
As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, our school participated in a Green Out Day on May 14, where students and staff were encouraged to wear green in support of mental health awareness. The color green symbolizes renewal, strength, and hope, reminding us all of the importance of caring for our minds and supporting one another.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped bring awareness to such an important cause.
Career STEM Day – A Hands-On Look at the Future
Students recently had an exciting opportunity to explore a wide range of careers during our Career STEM Day, where technology brought learning to life! Using VR headsets and computer simulations, students were able to step into the shoes of professionals from various industries and experience what it’s like to work in different fields.
From nursing and EMS, to truck driving and food handling, students explored hands-on scenarios that gave them a glimpse into real-world careers. The interactive experience sparked curiosity and helped students make connections between classroom learning and future possibilities.
F1AE Staff visit Honda of Timmonsville, preparing for student tours next year!
What have we been up to this summer?? Thanks to Debbie Jones with SC-DEW, members of our staff and Darlington-Lee Adult Education were able to visit Honda Manufacturing in Timmonsville. We were given a close-up look into plant history and operations where they now make large-size ATVs—the only facility in the world! The tour included a walk around the assembly line as well as amenities available to employees on the campus, all first class.
Connecting our students to highly skilled, well-paying jobs in our area is a major goal of adult education. Up next: a student visit as well as conversations about apprenticeships and workplace literacy! Skills pay bills!
Family Literacy at McClenaghan
Family Literacy Information
As part of PACT, which stands for Parent and Child Time, parents are warmly invited to partake in enriching sessions that foster bonding through engaging, budget-friendly activities. The excitement builds as families embark on a delightful trip to the Florence Library for enchanting storytime, where tales come to life. The holiday spirit shines bright as they capture timeless memories during a festive photo shoot with Santa, creating cherished snapshots of joy and connection.
Family Literacy at F1AE sponsors a lot of activities throughout the month in support of our students who are also parents. If you are one of our students and a parent of a child 8 or under, please see Ms. Kaitlyn in the front office or Ms. Cleo in room 103 for more information about joining our GFLS program! You don't have to take advantage of our child care center to participate.
May: A Month of Celebrations, Recognitions, and See-You-Soon Moments
The month of May was full of meaningful moments for our Family Literacy Program, a time to celebrate, recognize, and reflect on the progress and connections we’ve built together.
We began by honoring the heart of many families with a special Mother’s Day celebration, showing appreciation for the love, strength, and dedication of the mothers and caregivers who support both learning and life at home.
Another proud highlight was recognizing the parents who completed the Positive Parenting Program. These families received certificates for their hard work, commitment, and growth. Your investment in both your children and yourselves is truly inspiring—congratulations!
As the program year winds down, we know some families will be moving forward into new chapters. Whether you’re continuing with us next term or stepping into new opportunities, we want to say “see you soon”, not goodbye. Once part of our family, always part of our family.
Thank you for making May (and this year!) so meaningful. We’re proud of all you’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see what’s next!
English Language Learning at McClenaghan
ESL Students Celebrate Spring with Community and Culture
On May 13th, ESL had a fun and eye-opening trip to The Farm at Florence 1! They picked fresh vegetables straight from the garden and tasted the difference real food makes when Farmer Jeff cooked them with soy sauce—simple, healthy, and delicious!
The farm also treated our students to a delicious farm-to-table meal and shared valuable information about Blue Zones—areas in the world where people live longer, healthier lives by focusing on natural movement, plant-based foods, strong community, and purpose.
One of the most surprising lessons of the day came from a bread experiment. The farm showed how homemade bread and store-bought bread were left out for 85 days—the homemade bread molded naturally, but the store-bought bread did not mold at all. A powerful reminder of the importance of eating fresh, whole foods!
