CONGRATULATIONS FPS!
On Friday, April 25, 90 students from Spring Grove Elementary, Richmond Grade School, and Nippersink Middle School traveled to the Bloomington-Normal area to compete at the Future Problem Solving Affiliate Finals.
In teams of three or four, the students engaged with a future scenario about the effects of nanotechnology on the sport of swimming. In a two-hour time frame, the teams utilized a six-step process to identify and solve the underlying problem they saw in the scenario. The final step in this process is the creation of an action plan that describes how their solution could be implemented to solve the problem.
In the final piece of the competition, the teams had to create a presentation of their action plan that showed the underlying problem and solution they decided to implement. The teams then presented their action plans to a judge, parents, and a crowd of their peers.
Nippersink District 2 took home a variety of awards for both the skit performances and the written competition. Most notably, NMS, in the written competition, had four teams place in the top six in the state for the middle division. These results mean that a number of students will be moving on to the International Finals at Indiana University in June.
We are very proud of the effort that all the participants put forth in the competition. Great job everyone!
