IMPORTANT!

If you have missed any of the phone calls regarding delays or closures, please call the office and let them know. We upgraded to a new system that works best with a cell phone as the primary contact number, so we may need to adjust that in our system so you can stay up to date!

In addition to sending out calls and texts on delays, we also send a notification through our app! There are instructions on how to download the app near the bottom of the newsletter. It's a great way to stay informed.

There were many great and generous things taking place here before holiday break and continue to carry over to the new year and new semester.

The Gratiot County Community Foundation provided the elementary school with the ability to help 45 families with basic need items for the holidays. Many staff members were able to help with shopping, organizing and distributing items to families.

Santa and his elves came to visit and pass out candy canes on December 15.

Huge thank you to Mr. Phil Maxwell of St. Louis High School and his woodshop classes for providing a wooden toy for over 300 of our elementary students. They were able to deliver the toys in person, and the kids really enjoyed playing with them! We also thank the Carter family for donating the wood!

Mrs. Krenz's Service Projects!

Mrs. Krenz’s 4th grade class chose to Adopt a Family for their first semester community service project. They worked with the local organization Mid Michigan Foster Closet and Adoption Coalition to help a family of 7. Students chose a family member to shop for and brought in toys, clothes and other essential items for this family. Parent volunteers came in to help the class wrap and prepare all the gifts. The students learned the joy of giving to others who are experiencing hard times. Students felt proud, happy, good, and eager to help this family. Thank you to the parents that helped behind the scenes and on our wrapping day. We are excited to start planning our 2nd semester community service in the Spring.

4th Grade Field Trip

The 4th grade classes had the opportunity to visit the Michigan Historical Museum and the Capitol building in Lansing. The students explored the Historical Museum and learned about our State’s history. A few things they were able to experience included an old time movie theater, a large old style bike, a marker with the record snow fall, how Native Americans lived, history of the many wars, musical displays over the years, the old time classroom, and many cars that were produced within our state. At the Capitol building we learned about our government, including the House of Representative and Senate meeting rooms, the Governor’s office, the magnificent middle ceiling in the building that contains real gold, paintings of past governors, and the glass floor. We are so thankful for these experiences and learning outside the classroom!

BOND UPDATE BOND UPDATE

Work continues on the new wing of the elementary school. It's great to see the walls going up and the building taking shape. It won't be long and the roof will be in place.

The months ahead will certainly be busy with construction! We have received and reviewed bids for upcoming work on the athletic fields and MS/HS. These bids will be approved at our January Workshop Meeting on January 10th, at 4pm. The scheduled work on the MS/HS will be on 7 classrooms on the north side of the building. Work should begin by February. These 7 rooms should be ready for use by Spring Break. After Spring Break, an additional 7 rooms will be updated. The center of the building (science classrooms) are slated to be updated during the summer.

We look forward to getting work started on these projects!

-Wade Slavik, Superintendent
