A Message fromSuperintendent WargoJanuary 15, 2024

Dear Chapman School Families,

This message is in response to concerns regarding student safety including but limited to ensuring bathrooms as a safe space for all.

I want to start by saying that my words alone will not create the positive change we are all looking for. I understand how important a safe and welcoming school environment is for your children. I will take all the necessary steps to make this happen. I want for your children the same as I want for my own children.

I have heard and take to heart the concerns that have been shared in emails, the Chapman community forum, and phone calls. You want action. To that end, here is the plan to help address those concerns.

The plan’s concrete steps include:

  • Utilize parent/caregiver volunteers to serve as additional adults in and outside of the school to help with supervision.
  • Create a straight-forward table connecting undesired/inappropriate behavior with related consequences.
  • Install doors to allow administration to close bathrooms when needed. The doors have been ordered and will be installed upon arrival.
  • Review alternative academic pathways so all students can receive a high quality education.

I will work tirelessly to ensure these action items are implemented. I know that the most productive way to bring about constructive change is through collaborative efforts. I appreciate all those who have shown a desire to volunteer or lend an idea. This plan will not cure all, but it is a move in the right direction.

If you have any additional thoughts you can reach me at robert.wargo@weymoutps.org.

Sincerely,

Robert Wargo
