Hoyne Happenings Hoyne Happenings

Hello Families,

It was so great to see families last week during parent teacher conferences. We truly value our partnership with each and every single one of you. This we have been focused on creating a culture worth belonging to and hope that each and every single one of you could feel that last week.

Last week we also shared news that Pembroke will be welcoming Simba to our Pride as a therapy dog. Over the next couple of months Simba may be visiting Pembroke periodically and will join Pembroke on a daily basis sometime after the New Year!

At Respect Circle and in Morning Meetings we have been talking with students about having Pembroke Pride with Guest Teachers. We highly encourage families to talk with your students about what they can do to help Guest Teachers feel welcome at Pembroke.

Have a great week!

Colleen

Over the last few weeks we have seen an increase in issues surrounding trading cards at school. This includes students being distracted during instruction, cards being lost, and issues arising at recess from trading or playing with these cards. Trading cards will not be allowed at school. All of cards (Pokemon, sports, etc.) should be kept at home.

Do you have any LEGOs or DUPLOs at home that your child is no longer using? Pembroke’s Library would love to give them a new home here at school! Each week after our Library Media lesson, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students have the opportunity to participate in Maker Time during their library book check out. Maker Time is a chance for students to work collaboratively, think creatively and problem solve together! We are running low on both DUPLOs and LEGOs so if you have any that you are no longer using at home, Pembroke Library would greatly appreciate them! You can drop them off at the front office or send them in with your child and we will get them to the library. Thank you very much!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of our Pembroke families and community members for supporting our book fair this fall! It was the most successful book fair Pembroke has had in over 15 years! Thank you for being such strong supporters and champions of our school library, our classroom libraries and most especially - our Pembroke readers. Our staff and students thank you! Three cheers for reading!

INTEREST SURVEY: Junior Kindergarten 2025-2026

What is Junior Kindergarten? It's a free, full-day program that bridges the critical transition between home and school by offering an extra year of learning, emphasizing academic, social, emotional, and physical skill development. BPS wants to ensure students meet the academic standards and benchmarks appropriate to their age while providing meaningful context and real-life applications. Teachers are invested in helping cultivate a student's life-long love of learning through these connections.

The program is an ideal option for families with kindergarten-eligible students, born between June 1-Dec. 1, 2020, seeking to benefit from extra time for their child to grow and mature. Are you considering enrolling for Junior Kindergarten for the 2025-2026 academic year? If so, please ensure you complete the district interest survey no later than 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
