Just a friendly reminder that students should be mindful of their technology use throughout the school day. Cell phones and smartwatches should not be used to send or receive text messages or phone calls during the school day.

We appreciate your help in reinforcing these expectations with your child and thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep students focused and engaged in learning!

NWEA MAP Scores and IAR Scores

Families will be receiving their student’s IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness) and MAP Growth score reports on Friday, September 18 with your child. These assessment scores will be partnered with a letter and will provide valuable information about your child’s academic progress. This also helps our teachers identify areas of strength as well as opportunities for continued growth. Only students in grades 4-8 will receive IAR reports as younger students do not take this assessment.

Welcome back to the Library! 📚❤️

We’ve missed you—and our books have missed you, too! A new school year means new stories, new book adventures, and plenty of opportunities to fall in love with reading. I'm so happy to welcome our students back to the Library. A big shout out to our PTO who hosted a successful Scholastic Book Fair in the library. They did an amazing job and our staff and students loved it!

As you enjoy library books at home, please help your child take good care of them. We also encourage you to ask your child about the books they’ve checked out. A simple conversation about a favorite character, a funny part, or what might happen next can make reading together even more special.

We began our 2026–27 library classes with some wonderful books.

  • ECE: Roary: The Remarkable Dragon by Kathryn Rammell
  • Kindergarten: Little Bo Peep’s Library Book by Cressida Cowell, along with several favorite nursery rhymes from The Real Mother Goose
  • 1st Grade: Book! Book! Book! by Deborah Bruss
  • 2nd Grade: The Library Dragon by Carmen Agra Deedy
  • 3rd Grade: Stella LouElla’s Lost Library Book by Lisa Ernst
  • 4th Grade: Miss Smith’s Incredible Storybook by Michael Garland

Here are some of the other wonderful books we explored.

ECE–2: We talked about how to be responsible book borrowers with Marion from What Happened to Marion’s Book by Brook Berg. Ask your child about the toothpaste and the washer machine!

K–4: We celebrated International Dot Day! Students in 3rd and 4h grade had fun being creative with the 30 Dot Challenge and K-2 enjoyed the trilogy of books by Peter H. Reynolds.

K-2: Listening is a skill that needs to be practiced. Ask your child about the book, Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise by David Ezra Stein

3-4 We commemorated 911 with the book, This Very Tree: A Story of 9/11, Resilience, and Regrowth by Sean Rubin.

It has been amazing to see our students back in the Library, excited to choose books, sharing stories with one another, recommending books, and beginning new

reading adventures. Here’s to a year filled with curiosity, imagination, laughter, and lots and lots of reading!

Hearing and Vision Screenings

In accordance with the Illinois Child Vision and Hearing Test Act (410 ILCS 205/), the [Illinois Department of Public Health] (IDPH) mandates that children at specific age and grade levels receive annual hearing and vision screenings.

Our school will begin conducting these screenings on September 8th for the following students:

  • Hearing Screening: Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.

  • Vision Screening: Preschool, Kindergarten, 2nd, and 8th grades.

  • Other Categories: All students in Special Education, students new to the district, or any student specifically referred by a teacher.

These screenings will be performed during the school day by our district nurse, Kelly Waters BSN, RN.

Vision screening does not replace a comprehensive eye exam, and children with a recent professional evaluation on file are exempt.

Next Steps & Exemptions

Screenings are provided free by an IDPH-certified technician, serving as a preliminary check rather than a full medical exam.

  • Results: You are notified only if your child does not pass, which includes recommendations for follow-up.

  • Opt-Outs: To exempt your child, submit a recent eye exam report or a signed religious objection to the school nurse prior to the date.
