Have You Met Your AR Point Goal?
We are about halfway though the semester now, which means you should be at least halfway to reaching your point goal. Log into your Renaissance app to check your progress and look at the chart below. Remember, AR counts as 10% of your English class grade and several advisory teachers are monitoring your progress now as well!
Now for the fun stuff! If you do reach your AR point goal this semester, you get a treat at the ASB at the end of the semester. If you double your point goal, you get invited to a VIP Party at the library where you'll get your treat and pizza as well.
There's also that other reason to read: it's good for you! So don't fall behind. Come see me for good book recommendations.

Author Spotlight: Lynn Painter
If you like watching romantic comedies, you should try reading a book by Lynn Painter. She is the New York Times Bestselling author of Better Than the Movies, which is just one of her young adult rom-coms we carry in our library. Lynn Painter is from Omaha, Nebraska (which is where our very own Ms. Jones grew up!) and that is usually the setting for her stories. I've read all of these titles below and I would read anything else she writes. Come see me if these are something you could be interested in.
Better Than the Movies
This is basically a rom-com about rom-coms! Daydreamer Liz Buxbaum has a forever crush on Michael, who had moved away and is now back in town. Liz will do anything to get close to him, even if it means befriending her annoying neighbor, Wes. As she as Wes scheme to get her close to Michael, they are shocked to discover much fun they're having.
Nothing Like the Movies
AR 5.9, 17 Points
For a few beautiful months, Wes and Liz were blissfully happy. Then, right as the two were about to set off for college to start their freshman year together, tragedy struck and Wes lost Liz in the fallout. Wes knows he broke Liz's heart, but he is determined to make her fall back in love with him.
Betting On You
When 17-year old Bailey starts her new job, she was less than thrilled to see her old acquaintance, Charlie, is now her coworker. They had met on a flight a year before and could agree on nothing! Now, Bailey and Charlie find themselves looking forward to hanging out except that Charlie insists that members of the opposite sex can't just be friends and Bailey is determined to prove him wrong.
Doll Bones
Emilie is stuck in a dumpster fire of a Valentine's day time loop where she keeps re-living her boyfriend cheating on her . She also can't seem to keep from bumping into the mysterious Nick, who makes her heartbreak a little more tolerable. How many days can one girl passively watch her life go up in flames? And when something good starts to come out of these terrible days, what happens when the universe stops doling out do-overs?
Thank You for Supporting Our Scholastic Book Fair
This year's Scholastic Book Fair was another big success thanks to all of you. Not only did we appreciate all your purchases but also how respectful students were of keeping items orderly and waiting for your turn when we were super busy!
Some of the funds raised went to the ASB to provide reading incentives, and the rest goes to the library to buy new books for you all.
Because you are such good patrons, we'll definitely plan on having another fair next year.
Read Before You Watch 🎬🍿
The Fault In Our Stars by John Green
AR 5.5, 10 Points
This is the book that our book club students selected for our last pick of the year! If you want to read the book, you can come to our movie watch party on May 2nd.
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.
Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning author John Green's most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love (Goodreads).
Get Ready for iPad Collection
iPad collection is just around the corner for you 8th graders! Now is a good time to start getting your items ready. Mr. Manjarrez has been calling out students who have previous fines or overdue materials, so talk to your parents about taking care of those fines or starting a payment plan.
In addition to that, make sure your iPad, case, and charger/cable are clean and in good condition. Don't wait until collection day if you are not sure. Check with library staff if you have any doubts. Only the newer Apple brand iPad chargers we issued will be accepted. See the chart for all iPad-related charges.
