A Back to School Prayer ๐
Blessed are you, Lord God, Creator of body, mind, and heart.
You send the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide your people.
At the start of this new school year, we ask you to bless our students, teachers, and staff.
Help us grow together in faith, hope, and love.
Expand our minds to learn, deepen our love for truth, and open our hearts to help those in need.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL ๐
Dear Bruin Family,
On Monday, August 17, our campus will spring to life once again as we officially begin the 2026-27 school year. The hallways will be filled with conversation and laughter, the playground buzzing with joyful energy, and the classrooms alive with learning and discovery. As someone who spent much of the summer working in the quiet of an empty campus, I cannot wait to see our school filled with students, families, and staff once again.
This year, we will focus on being faithful in the little things. Our schoolwide theme, Small Acts, Great Love, reminds us that even the simplest actions can have a lasting impact. Whether it is offering a kind word, helping a classmate, showing gratitude, or putting forth our very best effort each day, these small acts reflect God's love in meaningful ways. Together, we will strive to build a community where compassion, service, and excellence are woven into our daily lives, demonstrating that great love is most often shown through ordinary moments.
Our gates will open at 7:45 a.m. on Monday morning, and our faculty and staff will be ready to warmly welcome back, or welcome for the very first time, our Bruins. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with you in your child's education and faith journey, and we look forward to all that God has in store for us this year.
Please scroll through the newsletter for important information regarding the first week of school, as well as recaps and resources from our Back-to-School Night presentations.
We can't wait to see you on Monday. Let's make it a wonderful year together! ๐ป๐
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryan Nearhoff

CALLING ALL COACHES ๐๐โฝ๐
As we begin preparing for the 2026-2027 school year, weโre excited to start building our
coaching teams for the upcoming sports season. The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) offers
a wide range of sports across fall, winter and spring, and weโd love to get a head start by
identifying interested parent volunteers now.
If you have a passion for sports and enjoy working with students, we invite you to consider
coaching one of our teams. Early planning will help us stay ahead with registrations, scheduling,
and coach certifications so our athletes can have the best experience possible.
Coaching is a great way to fulfill your mandatory parent hours while making a meaningful impact
on our student athletes. All coaches will be required to have completed Virtus training. Early
commitment helps ensure all requirements are met in time for the season.
Fall Sports include:
- Girls Volleyball
- Flag Football
- Cross-Country (A, B, and C level)
Winter sports include:
- Girls & Boys Basketball
- Bowling
- Cheer, Song, or Dance (A, B, and C level)
Spring sports include:
- Girls & Boys Soccer
- Girls Softball
- Boys Volleyball
- Track & Field (A, B, and C level)
- Golf (offered fall, winter, and spring)
Our A-level teams are for 7th -8th grade.
Our B-level teams are for 5th - 6th grade.
Our C-level teams are for 3rd - 4th grade.
If youโre interested in coaching any of these sports, please email Mr. Nearhoff as soon as
possible. Early planning allows us to register teams on time and create a smooth schedule for
practices and games.

HIGH SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
CHILD SAFETY ๐จ
Did You Know?
August 15-16 || Concerning behaviors in children
In contrast to last weekโs article about age-appropriate curiosity, signs that a child is being sexually abused will typically be displayed in more concerning ways. Problematic sexual behaviors include an explicit imitation of intercourse or sexual acts, touching animals inappropriately, and/or persistent, repeated behaviors or knowledge of sexual acts. One aspect that can make children more vulnerable is the significant amount of sexual content in our popular media, which may be viewed by children on shows and commercials, in gaming apps, websites, through technology such as smart phones, texting apps and social media. For more information, read the VIRTUSยฎ article โDifferentiating age-appropriate curiosity from harmful sexual behavior and abuse in elementary aged childrenโ at lacatholics.org/did-you-know.
Mission Statement
To educate TK-Eighth grade students in a Catholic environment in which the curriculum emphasizes spiritual, ethical, and social values of the Catholic faith to become responsible and moral citizens within the global community.
Philosophy
Supporting the belief that parents are the primary educators of their children, we as educators at St. Dorothy Catholic School, dedicate ourselves to partner with the parents in preparing children to become contributing members of the community. To achieve this, we provide holistic development in psychological, emotional, social and physical health, with an emphasis on academics, faith, and Christian service.
In collaboration with parents, we champion student achievement through the presentation, practice, and study of Catholic doctrine, a strong academic curriculum, multimedia and multi-cultural experiences, physical education, extracurricular programs, and the dedicated commitment of the teachers and staff.
