Eagle's Eye
Week of February 9 to 13
THIS WEEK
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Missed Exams
Accurate, effective, and timely feedback are essential to student achievement and engagement in their classes. In an effort to support teachers in providing timely feedback to students, and in the interests of informing students and parents about their achievement in their classes, SCS will be implementing a new procedure regarding missed exams and assessments. Effective February 8, 2026, when a student misses an exam or assessment, the following will occur:
Upon returning to class, a student will have the next two school days to use the after-school exam space to complete the missed exam of assessment.
Students will fill out a digital missed exam/assessment form, to indicate which date they will be writing the assessment after school.
Students who do not write their missed exam/assessment within the two day window will have a "NHI — Not Handed In" code applied to this exam/assessment on PowerSchool. This code applies a temporary score of "0" and will impact their grade.
Students may attempt to replace any "NHI" exam or assessment. Individual teachers will communicate with students when this window to re-write will open for their specific class (typically in the last month of the semester). This exam will not be the same as the original missed exam/assessment, but would be the version that students would complete as a "rewrite". Students will not be able to re-write this version of the exam/assessment.
We recognize that missing an exam/assessment will happen time to time due to appointments, illness, or school events. Teachers will however be tracking students who miss exams/assessments and administration will be following up with those who consistently miss exams/assessments for further conversation.
Thank you for co-operation in helping students write their exams/assessments on their intended day. This supports our teachers in providing the best feedback to our students in a timely manner. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Johnson directly (sandy.johnson@eips.ca)

FROM EIPS
Returning Student Registration for 2026-27
The Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) returning student registration process for 2026-27 takes place Feb. 9-23, 2026. Through the online form, families will confirm the school and program their child will attend next year or advise the Division if they aren’t returning. For students who want to attend a non-designated school next year, these requests must be submitted through the returning student registration process—acceptance is based on available space.
On February 9, the parent/guardian on file in PowerSchool identified as the Permission Click contact for each student will receive an email through Permission Click with a link to the form. If your family hasn’t received any Permission Click forms this school year, contact the school office so we can investigate any technical issues before registration season.
Fee Waiver Application Deadline
If circumstances exist where you’re unable to pay school or transportation fees, you can apply to have fees waived by submitting an Application for a Waiver of Fees. The application deadline is Feb. 13, 2026. If you’re new to the Division, the deadline is the latter of Feb. 13, 2026, or 45 days after registration.
To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view your fees and pay them online using Visa or MasterCard. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted.
Don’t forget to also log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal regularly throughout the year. Fees are often added to your child’s account to cover the cost of various school activities such as field trips, class projects, extracurricular activities and more.
For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines, visit www.eips.ca/schools/fees and www.scasecondary.ca/about/fees. Alternatively, contact Jennifer Gibson, Business Manager at SCA Secondary at 780-464-7127.
