This Week's Highlights
Thank You for another engaging week!
DC CAPE Make-Up Testing
This week we focused on make up testing for DC CAPE.
Open House
On Tuesday, we hosted our last Open House for the school year. We had some incoming and prospective families. Attendees received an overview of Shepherd’s academic programming and the many opportunities our school provides.
Hiring
Shepherd's Personnel Committee continued our hiring season by conducting interviews for our vacancies for SY 26-27.
1st Grade Trip
On Thursday, our 1st graders went to the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore, MD. Students had a wonderful time in interactive exhibits and immersive STEM experiences.
Cheer Banquet
Our Mustang Cheer team had their End of Year cheer banquet. This banquet is a time to celebrate the highlights of the cheer season and recognize our team/coaches on all of their accomplishments.
5th Grade Lesson
This week our 5th graders participated in the lesson titled "Helping Everyone Feel Safe Being Themselves" a one-hour, two-part lesson designed to help students better understand how words and actions related to identity or culture can affect others and to also reinforce the importance of treating one another with respect. Later this month, students will use the ideas developed during Friday’s lesson to create “Kind Response Kit” posters that we will display around our school, reminding all students how they can help everyone feel safe being themselves.
Announcements
Mental Health Awareness Spirit Week
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Next week, May 18-22, Shepherd ES will show our awareness by participating in a Spirit week. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Early Dismissal
Early dismissal is when a student is picked up by a parent/guardian prior to 2:45 PM. Please remember to also notify Mrs. Wilson, in the Main Office, if you are picking up your student early so that we can ensure they are ready and properly documented prior to your arrival.
After 2:45 PM, students will only be dismissed following normal dismissal procedures at 3:15 PM, as teachers and students are transitioning and wrapping up for the day.
Construction Shepherd Park Community Center:
The gym door that leads to the field/playground will be temporarily unavailable due to the construction on the stairs. A small section of the field will be fenced off, but the rest of the field and playground will remain open for Shepherd students and the wider community. Classes will use the exit from the main playground to access the field.

Birthday Celebration Policy 🎉
We would love to celebrate each student's birthday. However, Shepherd is a severe allergy school. That means we have students and staff throughout the building who have various severe allergies. Therefore, birthday parties are not permitted during school hours for students in grades K-5; ECE has a separate policy, which has been communicated to their families.
Please refrain from bringing or sending birthday treats to school. Instead, parents may send goodie bags for students to take home at the end of the day. Please ensure that if you are planning on sending goodie bags, that you inform your child's teacher and that there are enough for each student in the class receive one.
As a school community, we will acknowledge student birthdays on the school announcements daily.
Shepherd Mustangs are NUT-FREE
Please do not pack or send any products containing nuts (peanuts or tree nuts) to school.
Thank You for helping to keep our students safe.
