Fire Safety Student Assignment
Fire Prevention Week 2024
Dear Walker Families and Caregivers,
We’re excited to partner with the Springdale Fire Department for a special student assignment that could lead to a thrilling opportunity for your child! Each student has been asked to create a fire escape plan for your home. This is not only a fun and creative project, but it also helps teach valuable safety skills!
Here’s what to do:
- Help your child draw a map or floor plan of your home.
- Include two exits from each room and designate an outdoor meeting location where your family will gather in case of a fire.
- Once your plan is complete, sign it as a parent or caregiver and turn it in to the Walker office by October 31st.
Here’s the best part—one lucky Walker Wildcat will be selected to ride to school in a fire truck! 🎉
To make it easier, we’ve included videos and resources below to help guide your child in creating the escape plan. Be sure to take part in this fun and important activity!
Since we do not have school on Friday, October 18th, this would be a great day to sit down with your child and work on the plan together!
Thank you for your support, and good luck to all our Wildcats!
Did you know that Fire Prevention Week was started by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in 1922 to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871? Fire Prevention Week teaches children and adults how to stay safe in the event of a fire. This year is the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week!
Thank you to the Springdale Fire Department and Captain Pinkley for sharing about fire safety with our 1st-5th grade students.
