Budget Committee Approves 2022-23 Budget; School Board Adoption Process to Take Place June 6

The Budget Committee approved the budget following discussion that included several budget-related questions. Budget Committee members had particular interest in learning more about the school district’s Nutrition Services Meals Programs as well as middle and high school co-curricular fees. Members of the Budget Committee wanted to learn more about the feasibility of eliminating fees and required payments for both items in future budgets.

COVID-19 Reminders

The West Linn-Wilsonville School District continues to closely monitor COVID-19 transmission within Clackamas County through COVID-19 Community Levels. In alignment with CDC and ODE, Oregon Health Authority strongly advises universal masking in K-12 settings when COVID-19 Community Levels are high. Clackamas County is currently in the medium level. At all levels, individuals may choose to mask based on their individual risk assessment (e.g., increased risk for severe disease or family or community members at increased risk for severe disease).

Review COVID-19 protocols, the COVID-19 Dashboard, and frequently asked questions by visiting the district website.

Meals No Longer Free Starting in 2022-23 School Year

Due to COVID-19 state and federal funding for free meals ending, students will need to pay for meals starting in 2022-23.

Eligible families are encouraged to apply for the free and reduced meal program starting in July. After applying, families will receive a letter notifying them if they’ve been approved. Families need to apply for the free and reduced meal program every year, even if they’ve applied and been approved previously. Applications can be printed or submitted electronically by visiting the district website. Applications are also available at your child’s school.

Schools will also return to our pre-pandemic meal service protocols starting in 2022-23. This requires students to enter their student ID number prior to receiving lunch. Schools will re-teach students meal protocols at the beginning of next school year, and we encourage families to start working with their students now to memorize student ID numbers.

Thank you for your attention to this meal service change.

Clackamas County Health Advisory: The Dangers of Fake Pills and Fentanyl Poisoning

The Clackamas County Public Health Division and local prevention partners advise parents to be aware of the dangers and increased prevalence of opioids and fentanyl within our community. Teens and youth are specifically being targeted online, as social media platforms are increasingly used to buy and sell drugs, many of which are counterfeit. However, resources and supports services are available through Clackamas County, local school districts, and community organizations serving those at risk of substance use.
