Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Families,
We hope you are enjoying your fall break! The long weekend is an opportunity to spend time with your family and enjoy extra time together. We look forward to seeing your students back on Tuesday. After long breaks, students are sometimes hesitant to return. Please note that these transitions can be difficult, but we are excited to welcome your students back and help them acclimate back to the school routine.
We loved celebrating with your students last week. Many students dressed up in traditional Hispanic attire representing their cultures. We are so grateful for the diversity of the Biomedical Preparatory community and love coming together to learn more about each other and celebrate. Thank you for also participating in our space dress up for World Space Week! It was a fun week!
This week, we have a few important PTO events to look out for. On Tuesday, October 17th at 6:00 pm, we will have a PTO meeting and board elections. Please see the information below and plan to attend if you are able. One member per household can vote in the elections in naming our next PTO board. On Saturday, October 21st, we will have our Trunk or Treat event. Please see below for donations that are needed to help make the event a success. We appreciate all assistance with facilitating a fun event for our students.
We will have our first parent lunch on Wednesday October 18th. Please see information below regarding the event and look out for an email from Ms. Maffucci early this week with the logistics.
Mr. Fries, our art teacher, has created an art opportunity for your students. It is optional, but is a fun way to create art with your students at home. Students can decorate a paper pumpkin template with the faces of their favorite literary characters. We will place these on the walls of our campus. Students should have gone home with the flyers and templates in their backpacks on Friday.
We look forward to seeing your students back on Tuesday! Have a great rest of your break and please reach out with any questions.
Best regards,
Dr. G

Hello Biomedical Prep Families, Happy Fall Break! As your School Counselor, I am always hoping to provide the best services possible to families and students. Your feedback is very important to me! Please fill out this parent survey to provide feedback on my counseling program. I will use the results to tailor my offerings to student and family needs :)
As you may already know, October 23rd-27th is National Red Ribbon Week! Red Ribbon Week is a national substance abuse prevention campaign that began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985. We will celebrate with a week of dress up days and a daily feature in the morning announcements about making safe and healthy choices.
In honor of Red Ribbon Week, my classroom lessons in K-2nd over the next 2 weeks will focus on Safe and Healthy Decision-Making.

Free Covid-19 tests
COVID-19 is on the rise again. You can obtain four free At-home Rapid Antigen COVID-19 tests shipped directly to your home. The government has reinstated this program but is now only allowing four At-Home Covid-19 tests per address.
Please also check the expiration dates of any test at your home as they may still be usable https://www.covid.gov/tests.
Lunch Sign Up- October
We are excited for our Parent Lunch on Wednesday October 18th. As a reminder, only the parents who signed up using the Sign Up Genius will be able to attend this week. We will have other dates available in November and December. Only 1 adult is able to join their student due to available seating in the STEM room.
Ms. Maffucci will send an email this week with logistics, but please ensure you have completed a Voly application to ease the check in process. Create an account here on Voly. We recommend coming 10-15 minutes early to ensure you are checked in through the office for the starting time for your child's lunch. For safety protocols, you must wear your check in badge while on campus. It is okay if you bring in outside food for the parent lunch.
Please contact Ms. Maffucci at gmaffucci@dallasisd.org with any questions.
Gun Safety
As the state law now requires School Districts to distribute safe firearm storage information to parents and guardians. I would like to share the information below.
While your children are in our care, our top responsibility is to provide a safe and supportive environment where all students can learn and grow. We recognize that school safety is an effort that begins at home, and under House Bill 3 (HB3), districts are now required to distribute safe firearm storage information to all parents and guardians. Throughout the year, Dallas ISD will work with parents to offer information on this safety effort.
Here are some essential gun safety tips that can help prevent accidents and keep our students safe:
● Keep Guns Locked, Unloaded and Secured: If you do own guns, invest in a quality gun safe or lockbox. Store firearms locked, unloaded, separate from ammunition, and away to prevent unauthorized access, especially by children.
● Teach Children About Gun Safety: Talk to your child about guns, even if you don't own any. Teach them to never touch a gun they find and to immediately inform an adult.
● Seek Proper Training: If you decide to own a gun, seek proper training in firearm safety and handling. Even if you don't own one, learning about firearm safety can be valuable.
● Lead by Example: As adults, we should always model responsible gun ownership and safety for our children.
Learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety and Be SMART at safegunstoragetexas.com and besmartforkids.org. For details on Dallas ISD’s comprehensive safety plan, please visit dallasisd.org/safeschools.
By sharing this information, we can collectively promote a culture of safety within our community. Let's work together to keep our families safe and informed.
Sincerely,
Uniforms
I would like to remind you to review the uniform policy and ensure that your child is wearing appropriate uniform and footwear. This is to ensure their safety as improper shoes can lead to injuries.
Homeroom teachers will begin contacting families regarding this topic to better understand individual needs.
Your cooperation in this matter is highly appreciated. please see the approved uniform policy here
Special Populations Night at Onesimo Hernandez
