Pyramid Model Retreats Are Returning!!

Are you ready to take advantage of a full day to laugh and learn alongside your colleagues in person?! Please plan on joining us for the annual Pyramid Model Retreat, 2023! You will spend the day celebrating and sharing your successes of Pyramid Model implementation, as well as learning from others across the state. You may choose to present a Spotlight or Poster Session, or simply attend the Retreat. If presenting, topics may be centered around highlights, systems, “what’s next…,” data dives, etc. Consider the Retreats a time to strengthen team bonds, create connections with new teams, and bring back innovative ways to continue best practice implementation of social-emotional skills in your program. See you there!

Registration is live on the Metro ECSU website.

Pyramid Model implementation in Infant/Toddler Programs and use of the TPITOS.

The Infant/Toddler classrooms at BI-CAP Head Start are using Pyramid Model in a way that is meaningful for the children and families their program serves. Jen Anderson and Rena Nipp, BI-CAP PD coaches, shared " we use the same expectations program wide: Always Safe, Always Kind, Always Do Your Best but teach them in a way that is more developmentally appropriate using the rules in our classrooms. We are also offering our families Positive Solutions training which implements the Pyramid model in the home. We use positive stated expectations like “feet on the floor”, “our teeth are for chewing food” (for our biters!), and “gentle hands with friends” and then model gentle touches. Common language between home and school is the key to successful implementation with our youngest learners. We find visuals (from routines to solution kits) to be so helpful and powerful with infants and toddlers, especially when they are used properly by teachers. We also use BIR’s to identify transitions that may need tweaking or students who need extra support. We have also implemented comprehensive coaching with our Infant/Toddler teachers based on TPITOS (equivalent of the TPOT in preschool classrooms) and BIR data."

NEW!! Implementation Guides

Implementation Teams, have you discovered the BIR and PTR-YC Implementation Guides under the following tab of our Share Site: Implementation Team > Systems Work: BIRs & PTR-YC? These two guides provide steps and questions to consider as you develop your own internal structures around use of the Behavior Incident Reports (BIRs) and PTR-YC system. We also have a new Implementation Team Facilitator Guide available to support facilitators in their role as they lead Implementation Teams. You can access the Implementation Team Facilitator Guide here.

Implementation Checklist for Preschool

The Pyramid Model Practices Implementation Checklist has been refreshed. You can view the updated resource in the NCPMI resource library. The updated checklist has a few new categories, some of which not only include building relationships with students, but with families and colleagues as well. The Implementation Checklist is a great starting tool for goal setting around Pyramid Model practices.

Classroom Posters around Positive Descriptive Praise (English and Spanish)

The Center for Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation out of Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development has created routine based posters to use as a guideline for promoting positive interactions within the classroom. Each poster provides phrases for positive comments, choices and promoting emotional vocabulary within each of the routines. These resources can be found here.

Pyramid at Home

Hot off the press is a Pyramid at Home family newsletter that programs can share with families! Each Pyramid at Home newsletter describes the identified skill, provides ideas and tips for families to implement at home, and resources they might find helpful. Currently there are two newsletters completed; routines and emotions. Programs can either share with families as is, or they can utilize each newsletter’s Canva template and edit to fit their program needs.
