PRINCIPAL FIERRO-KIN'S MESSAGE
Dear Gayle Middle School Families,
We have an exciting week ahead as our Panthers celebrate FRIGHTFULLY FUN Spirit Week, October 26–30, hosted by our Student Council Association (SCA)! Each day brings a fun opportunity for students to show their creativity, school spirit, and Panther PRIDE!
This week also marks Red Ribbon Week, a time to encourage healthy choices and remind our students of the importance of making positive decisions. It's a great opportunity to reinforce these conversations at home as we continue supporting our Panthers in making safe and responsible choices.
As a reminder, participation in Spirit Week is completely optional. Students are welcome to join in the fun, but participation is not required.
On Dress Up/Costume Days, please help us ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience by following these expectations:
All costumes must follow the school dress code.
Masks, heavy makeup that covers the face, offensive symbols, and costume weapons are not permitted.
All costume preparations, including makeup and colored hairspray, must be completed at home before arriving at school.
Costumes must not interfere with teaching and learning.
We appreciate your partnership in making this a fun and memorable week while keeping learning at the heart of everything we do. We can't wait to see our Panthers show their spirit!
With Panther PRIDE,
Deanna Fierro-Kin

GMS Veterans Day Breakfast
Gayle Families, we are excited to invite you to join us for our Veterans Day Breakfast on November 10 from 9:30–10:30 a.m. as we recognize and celebrate the veterans who are special to our students and families. Space is limited, so families interested in attending should RSVP at https://tinyurl.com/GMSveteransbreakfast. A reminder email with additional details will be shared with registered families closer to the event date.
Survey Closes October 30
Each week, teachers nominate students for Panthers of the Week based on how they demonstrate our Panther PRIDE values: Personal Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Effort.
Students may be recognized for their attitude, effort, growth, leadership, kindness, responsibility, or for simply making choices that positively impact our school community.
PANTHERS IN ACTION
In Case You Missed It: Our Panthers Are Diving into SeaPerch!
After school on Thursday, five of Gayle’s dedicated faculty members joined fellow Stafford County Public Schools educators for hands-on training in preparation for the upcoming SeaPerch season! We love seeing our teachers go above and beyond to bring exciting, hands-on STEM learning opportunities to our Panthers. We can't wait to see what this season brings!
Meet Our 2026–2027 Beta Club Officers!
Congratulations to our newly elected Beta Club officers! Atharva S. (President), Isaiah G. (Vice President), and Gabriel M. (Secretary) will help lead our Beta Club this school year. We look forward to seeing their leadership, service, and Panther PRIDE in action!
Meet Our 2026–2027 NJHS Officers!
Congratulations to our newly elected National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) officers! Beau L. (President), Kinley F. (Vice President), and William K. (Secretary) will help lead NJHS this school year. We are excited to see how they inspire others through scholarship, leadership, character, and service!
A new role and a new home base!
Celebrating Culture and Community!
Our Gayle Panthers had a wonderful opportunity to celebrate diversity and share their cultural heritage at the SCPS Multicultural Fair! We are proud of our students, teachers, and counselors who participated in this special event, highlighting the rich cultures and traditions that make our school community unique.
A special thank you to Mr. Rodriguez, Mrs. Navarro-Lopez, and Mrs. Reyes for supporting our students and staff in sharing their cultures and celebrating the diversity that makes Gayle such a special place!
Book of the Month
It's almost October and time for a new Book of the Month. It's spooky season and time for reading! Will your next book be creepy or cozy?
Each month students will have a choice of books to enjoy and will earn a prize for completing their selected book. Although, the real prize is the joy one gets from reading.
Get a pass to come to the library from your teacher, and check out a fun, fall read.

2027-2028 Proposed Calendar Public Hearing
The Stafford County School Board continues to review proposed school calendars for the 2027-2028 school year, considering community feedback and potential revisions. At Tuesday’s meeting, the Board reviewed three calendar options and voted to eliminate Version 1. Versions 2 and 3 remain under consideration as the Board explores additional revisions.
Veterans Day remains a holiday for students and staff in both remaining options.
Review the proposed calendars below:
The School Board will hold a public hearing regarding the proposed calendar changes next Tuesday, October 27, immediately following the 5 p.m. work session.
Community members may submit written comments for the October 27 public hearing through the Digital Public Comment form. Please do not use this form if you intend to speak in person during the hearing.
Individuals who wish to speak in person during the hearing should register through the Speaker Registration Form.
Take the Special Education Parent Involvement Survey
Families of students receiving special education services are encouraged to share their feedback through the Special Education Parent Involvement Survey.
This survey provides an opportunity for parents and guardians to share input on their experiences and help improve services and support for students with individualized education programs (IEPs).
Parents may access the survey using the provided link. Families with more than one child receiving special education services are asked to complete a separate survey for each child.
Deadline to complete the survey: December 11, 2026
Your voice is important in helping us continue to strengthen our programs and better serve our students and families.
SCPS News
On Tuesday, November 3, Stafford County voters will consider a referendum on an additional local sales and use tax of up to 1%.
If approved, the referendum would authorize the County Board of Supervisors to implement the tax, which would go toward school facility projects throughout our division.
This funding could support:
Construction of new schools
Replacement of aging school buildings
Major renovations and modernization projects
Restoration or replacement of critical building systems
Classroom and instructional-space improvements
Eligible additions to existing schools
Eligible bond or loan financing costs associated with school capital projects
Specific projects would continue to go through established planning, budgeting, procurement, and approval processes. Approval of the referendum would not automatically authorize or fully fund every project.

Request to Temporarily Change Dismissal Transportation– Green Slip Required
To ensure student safety, any change to a student’s normal dismissal plan must be requested by a parent or guardian listed in the student’s information profile. These requests may be made by email, phone call, or written note before dismissal.
** When calling the school, families will be asked to verify identifiable student information so we can confirm the caller’s identity.
For example:
If a student who normally rides the bus or is a car rider has been given permission to walk home, the front office will issue a green slip once the parent request has been received and verified. Students must have this green slip to leave campus as a walker.
Please note:
-
A green slip does not allow a student to ride a different bus.
-
A green slip does not allow a student to ride a bus if they are not assigned to one.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain safe and accurate dismissal procedures.
Early Dismissal Procedure Update
For safety reasons, we will not pull students from class in advance based on a phone call from a parent or guardian. All adults entering the building for early dismissal must present a valid photo ID at the entrance before the student will be called from class.
Please plan your arrival time accordingly, as it may take a few minutes for your child to be dismissed once you arrive. This process helps us ensure that every student is released safely. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Gayle Clinic News
Medication Drop Off & Required Immunizations
Medication Drop-Off Instructions
If your child requires medication during the school day, it must be brought to the clinic by a parent or guardian. All medications must be in their original, labeled container and accompanied by the required Stafford County Public Schools medication form. Please contact our school nurse for any questions or to schedule a drop-off time.
All rising or new 7th grade students must have proof of required immunizations on file.
Per the Virginia Department of Health’s School and Day Care Minimum Immunization Requirements, students entering 7th grade must have received the following after their 11th birthday:
