Scooter Safety
We have had multiple complaints regarding scooters in our community and unsafe riding. We have spoken with riders when unsafe practices are observed and have created a safety pamphlet outlining applicable Idaho laws and local regulations.
We ask parents and riders to please review these rules and help ensure they are followed for everyone’s safety.
Key reminders:
- Ride on the right side of the roadway and as close to the curb as practical.
- Do not ride more than two bicycles abreast or impede traffic.
- Obey stop signs and red traffic signals.
- Yield to pedestrians and emergency, construction, and other authorized vehicles.
- Use proper hand signals when turning when it is safe to do so.
- Do not cling to or follow other vehicles too closely.
- Do not carry anything that prevents you from maintaining control.
- Only one rider is permitted unless the device is specifically designed for more than one person.
- Bicycles must have required lights and reflectors when riding at night.
- Bicycle racing on public streets is not permitted unless properly authorized.
- Electric-assisted bicycles are also subject to these rules.
Idaho law requires every person operating a human-powered vehicle to exercise due care. These requirements apply to bicycles and, where applicable, scooters, skateboards, and other similar devices.
Gooding has limited sidewalks in some areas. While bicycles, scooters, and similar devices may operate on roadways, riders are encouraged to use available sidewalks when appropriate and always yield to pedestrians.
Our goal is not to discourage kids from enjoying their bikes and scooters—it is to help make sure everyone gets home safely.
Parents, please take a few minutes to talk with your children about these important safety rules.
🚒 Message from Fire Chief Steven Bishop
I can't believe it's September already! Gooding Fire District has had a busy summer so far. We have had firefighters out on deployment locally in the state of Idaho off and on since the middle of June, and it shows no signs of stopping. The projected drought outlook looks to continue into October, possibly longer if we don't receive any precipitation.
Please remember if you want to burn yard waste and live in the city limits you must obtain a burn permit from City Hall. If you live in the rural areas, you must obtain a burn permit through IDL (Idaho Department Of Lands) website, both are free. Also, remember, burn barrels are illegal in the Gooding Fire District response area.
I hope everyone has a fun and safe Labor Day Weekend and month of September!

Message from Mayor Diane Houser
Well, we have made it through another Fair Week in Gooding!
The parade on Wednesday was wonderful, as always. The kids had a great time enjoying all the candy being thrown to them, and the floats were fantastic. It is so much fun to see the joy on the kids’ faces and watch all the different participants make their way down Main Street. There is nothing quite like enjoying the Gooding County Fair and Rodeo! Don Gill and his crew do a wonderful job putting it all together each year.
Now the kids are back in school and starting another school year. Please remember to be mindful of our children as they walk to school or ride their bikes, especially with all the construction taking place around town. Please slow down and watch carefully for them.
Hopefully, by the end of September, all of the road construction in town will be completed. The Idaho Transportation Department has started its work with the new curbing and sidewalks. Soon, they will begin tearing up Main Street and repaving it. It will be so nice to have new sidewalks and roads throughout town.
It has certainly been a long summer with all the construction, detours, and road work, but we are getting closer to the finish line. Once everything is completed, we should be able to enjoy these improvements for many years to come. In the meantime, please be careful when driving on Main Street and around the construction areas until the work is finished.
Just a reminder, the City of Gooding will be closed on Monday, September 7th, for Labor Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, September 8th.
This will be the last long weekend of the summer for camping. I hope you all have a wonderful time in the mountains with your family and friends. Enjoy the beautiful outdoors, make some memories, and most importantly, please be safe.
God Bless, and stay safe!
Diane Houser
Mayor, City of Gooding
Closed for Labor Day
