Medical Forms
To ensure the health and safety of our students, it is imperative that our school is aware of any medical conditions in order to be prepared in the event of an emergency. Kindly advise the main office if your child has any medical needs. You most likely have already done this upon registration to St. John of the Cross. Specific documentation ("GF514") is needed for the following conditions: Diabetes, Epilepsy or other seizure disorder, Asthma or Anaphylaxis. Please see the links below and complete the appropriate form(s) if you have not completed them already.
NOTE: Completion of any GF514 form(s) is only needed for those who have not yet previously submitted it to the St. John of the Cross school team, or if changes need to be made to a previously submitted form.
If medication is required for administration and storage, please complete the additional form: GF035 - Authorization for Storage and Administration of Medications. The GF035 form must be completed and re-submitted to the school on a yearly basis. It does not require a physician's signature if there are no changes to your child's medication or medical condition.
STOPR Bus Information
Eligible students in JK, SK and Grade 1 will receive a bus tag on Tuesday and it will be put on their backpack. As a reminder, a parent/guardian needs to be there at drop off or they will not be let off the bus.
Students who are eligible for transportation will be assigned to a bus by STOPR. Please click on the image to the right to access the STOPR website where you can log in the Bus Planner Web parent portal to review your child's bus assignments and start dates.
Bus Times – Pick-up and drop off times may fluctuate several times throughout September as STOPR continues to assign new students, add new bus stops and reroute existing directions. Please understand that bus times will be more consistent after the first few weeks of school, and STOPR kindly asks for everyone’s patience during this busy time.
Bus Delays - During the first few weeks of school, it is normal to have delays. There are multiple reasons for these delays, and they typically work themselves out once everyone is comfortable with their new routines. If you have any questions about times, please visit their website stopr.ca

Nut Free / Scent Free School
Some of the students in our school have severe life threatening allergic reactions to nuts, peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oils and any peanut by -products. For some children the smell of nuts can bring on a severe attack. We need your cooperation! We kindly ask that you DO NOT send snacks to school that contain nuts or any nut products.
Please note that to ensure the continued safety of all students, the Dufferin -Peel Catholic District School Board with the support of the Anaphylactic Society and the Peel Health Department has recommended that students not bring peanut butter alternatives (soy butter, sunflower butter) to school. We thank you for your cooperation in supporting student safety.
Head Injury Protocol
When a student receives an injury/bump to the head (however minor), it is Board Policy that we inform parents. This is precautionary only, and we ask that you check your child when he/she gets home for any signs of a concussion or illness. We will also provide your child with a brochure containing information about Concussions, again this is a precautionary measure and for information purposes.
Children need frequent reminders that name-calling, put-downs and violence are never appropriate responses to disagreements or arguments, regardless of the provocation. Parents are urged to rehearse assertiveness skills with their children such as saying firmly, ― “Please Stop”, “I don’t like it when..” “Leave me alone”

Information and Reminders
- We ask that parents continue to support their children in their morning routines so that they can arrive to school on time. This ensures that your child learns an essential life skill, participates in the entire school day, and that disruptions to the learning environment are minimal. As a reminder school starts at 9:00 am and students must be in class by this time to be on time and ready to start the day.
- Please call in your child’s absences or lates using the new Safe Arrival System using the School Messenger App, http://go.schoolmessenger.ca or call 1-844-435-3440
- All students who arrive late to school, must sign in the office once announcements have started. For students, who cannot sign in, parents are asked to sign for them in the office.
- St. John of the Cross is cashless with the use of Online Payment. School Cash Online allows parents to pay school-related fees online safely, quickly and easily. Please go to https://dpcdsb.schoolcashonline.com/ to register online if you are new to the school or if you did not register last year. All lunch programs and field trips will be placed on School Cash Online.
- If you need to pick up your child earlier than the regular dismissal or if their regular pick up routine is changing for the day, please contact the office as well as the teacher so we can ensure that your child is ready and everyone is aware. Please ensure that you call the school before 3:00pm.
- There is no supervision outside before 8:45am. Students cannot arrive at the school before 8:45am without parent supervision as there is no one to watch them in case of an emeregency or accident.

By directing your tax support to the Separate (Catholic) School System:
- You may vote for Catholic School Trustees in Municipal elections
- Your children may attend Catholic elementary schools
- You show your support for the Catholic school system
To verify that you are registered as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter:
- Check the assessment section of your Tax Bill or Property Assessment Notice
- Check your Voter Information Card received during an election year (2022)
Have you moved?
Even if you have been an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter in the past, the designation DOES NOT follow you when you relocate. By default, your property taxes support your municipality's English public school board. Every time you move or if there is a change of ownership, it is essential that you register yourself as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter.
To register as an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter or change your Direction of School Support, please contact the DPCDSB Admissions Department by phone at 905-890-0708 ext. 24512 or by email at admissions@dpcdsb.org.
