Homework
3rd grade assigns homework every week except on breaks.
Homework is assigned every Monday and due back on Fridays.
Math-Daily spiral review
Reading-
What will we be learning this week?
Reading
Next week, we will explore the story Amos & Boris. Students will:
- Identify story elements and the central message.
- Learn how authors group related information and practice writing their own explanatory paragraph.
- Study adverbs ending in -ly and abstract nouns with -less, using dictionaries to explore root word meanings.
- Analyze how illustrations and word choices depict the sea.
- Practice capitalizing words in titles correctly.
- Develop respectful ways to agree and disagree in discussion.
Math
1. Addition & Subtraction Mastery
Students are practicing adding and subtracting numbers up to 1,000 quickly and accurately. They’re also learning to solve real-life math problems with larger numbers—up to 10,000—by using part-whole strategies (breaking numbers into smaller, friendlier parts to make problem-solving easier).
2. Math in the Real World
Students are becoming “math detectives” by asking their own questions, collecting information, and using graphs, charts, and observations to find answers. This helps them connect math to everyday life—whether it’s planning a party, tracking weather, or comparing sports scores.
How You Can Help at Home:
-
Practice quick addition and subtraction facts during everyday activities (grocery shopping, cooking, travel times).
-
Encourage your child to explain how they solved a problem, not just give the answer.
-
Look for real-life opportunities to make and read simple graphs together.
Science/Social Studies
Every 6 weeks we will switch between Science and Social Study standards. We will continue this week with science learning about soil.
Reading Specialist
Welcome back, 3rd grade students and families! My name is Mrs. Amanda Montgomery and I will be one of your child's Reading Specialists for this year. I am excited to start this school year by getting to know all of your child's strengths and then making a plan to help them grow as readers. Please do not hesitate to email me (amontgomery@marietta-city.k12.ga.us) or call, if you have any questions or concerns. This is going to be a great year of growth.
3rd grade will start their beginning of the year literacy assessments on August 4th. This process will take about 3 weeks to complete and it is very important for your child to be at school, ready to give their best! Thank you for all you do at home to support us here at school.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amanda Montgomery
IRR
I am an interrelated special education teacher; I will co-teach in Mrs. Baker and Ms. Castillo’s classrooms this school year. This is my second year teaching, and I am so excited to be teaching 3rd grade again at Park Street! If your child is in Mrs. Baker or Ms. Castillo’s homeroom and has an IEP, I will be their case manager this year. I will be your contact person regarding your child’s IEP needs. Please know that I am here to support your child and communicate with necessary staff information for the implementation of your child’s IEP. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
