Tidbits from the President Tidbits from the President

WOW, wasn’t that a great show! Thanks to EVERYONE. If you entered a quilt, entered a mini, made items for the booth, volunteered before or during the show, took a class, YOU made it happen. Our booth made a GREAT profit (Thank you so much, Grace and Pat). We sold all of our “100%” tickets as well as 9 of the consignment tickets. All our minis sold (thank you Ann for making it happen). We will have a final $$$ when we get the final numbers from NTQF/Expo.

Cecilia will be running the August meeting. I will be in England visiting my son (who’s already been there almost 2 years). I’m going with my husband and parents. And I will definitely be enjoying the cooler weather.

Make sure you check out the Quilting Events are Everywhere at the bottom of the newsletter. There are two local quilt guild events in September that you want to plan.

See you in September…

NTQF 2025 NTQF 2025

Thank you to all who submitted a quilt, volunteered, made something for the booth or a mini, and came to the NTQF show in Irving this year. The show was a great success! While we don’t have official numbers yet, we know that attendance was up and our return will be better due to better ticket sales (thank you, Grace) and Thank you to Grace and Pat for taking charge of the booth, where we had strong sales.

Some of you let me know that I guilted you into participating. lol. I am not going to apologize for that. Some of you came away with unexpected ribbons! But more importantly, we showed other attendees the multitude of talent we have in our guild! It is a lot of work to put on a show and we definitely reap the benefits of this partnership with the Sewing Expo by not having to do all the work ourselves.

I am hoping one of you will step up and become the FWQG rep for the coming year. I am hoping that there will be opportunity for me to be involved in a different position. The reps attend the monthly meetings via zoom (starting in January) take notes and relay the information to the guild at our monthly meeting. Please let me know if you would consider this position for the coming year.

Thank you again for all the work you did and we will continue to strive to find ways to make our involvement make a positive impact for our guild. -Molly

NTQF Volunteering. NTQF Volunteering.

All members who volunteered at the show, please send an email to the guild (fortworthqg@gmail.com) saying your name, what you did at the show, and how many hours you worked.

Starting next year, show profit percentages will be based on volunteer time, so we want to make sure the kinks are worked out THIS year.

Raffle Quilt Raffle Quilt

We have a raffle quilt every 2 years.

We need someone to manage the raffle quilt for 2026. The planning and creation needs to be done THIS year.

Send Sunshine and Shadows directly to Anne Houpt: annhoupt@aol.com or via text message

Hospitality Volunteers needed! Hospitality Volunteers needed!

We need hospitality volunteers for the August and September meetings. There will be a sign up sheet for the rest of the year. Marilyn is great, but we shouldn’t expect her to do everything.

Hospitality Hospitality

The NTQF is in the history book. It was a great show.

Teachers and students are getting ready to start back to school. My question is “Where DID the summer GO??

Looking forward to seeing everyone at our August meeting. Bring your favorite snack to share.

Tight Knots

July 9, 2025, the Tight Knots Quilt Bee met in the home of Judi Janes. Members present were Carolyn Hughes, Peggie Herring, Grace Stroud, Cecilia Villa, Cheri Bigham, Pat Wagers, Barbara Anderson, Chris Tomich and hostess Judi Janes. Conversation immediately shifted to the flooding tragedy in Kerr county. With the upcoming quilt show guild booth chairpersons Grace and Pat present we began talking about taxes, credit cards and volunteers. Pat's daughter Pam has agreed to take off work for 3 days to help in the guild booth. Thank you Pam!

Quote of the Day: "Put it back where you found it!"

Show 'N' Tell: Chris- Christmas napkins made for the boutique; and lovies, 3 baby quilts, 2 afghans, and a trash bag full of heart shaped pillows for mastectomy patients to be donated to JPS. Ceci - she had a tell- as a long arm quilter, she has been quilting for other people. Her last project measured 108"x108" which was her first LARGE quilt. Grace - also a tell- she participated in a free online mystery and made two table toppers. Peggie - showed a baby quilt. Thankfully Peggie has her blood pressure under control and is now able to do more quilting. Carolyn - says she has been working on getting her "house in order". Pat W. - recently made an eleven hour drive to Mississippi to see her 84 year old brother. Cheri - showed two baby quilts.

Staying with a patriotic theme, Judi served apple pie and blueberry muffins. The monthly LRC game was for blue fat quarters. The winner was Peggie.

Start a BEE Start a BEE

One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!

General Guidelines

  • Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
  • A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
  • Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
  • Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
  • Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.

Bev Ramsey Fund Bev Ramsey Fund

Bev Ramsey was a charter member of the guild, a past president, a teacher and a friend. We lost her way too early. The Bev Ramsey fund was set up to help those in need enjoy the things she loved very much, retreats and workshops.

Lovies Lovies

Lovies are used for preemie babies and their mother's so they can become familiar with each other's scent.

If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.

Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Harris Downtown for their NICU unit.

JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items) JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items)

August delivery to JPS consisted of 13 NICU quilts, 3 walker bags, and a large bag of heart pillows for post-op patients. Thanks to all who contributed!

At the end of the month in July, the following items were delivered to JPS: 4 baby quilts, 1 adult quilt, 1 wheelchair quilt, and two large bags of heart quilts for post surgery patients.

We encourage each member to read the information below just to refresh your memory about all the items you can make for JPS. It’s not just NICU quilts. They love to get baby quilts of all sizes. The NICU quilts can’t contain flannel, but other quilts can. A new item added to the list is a wheelchair quilt (approximately 36 x 48).

Our donations are really appreciated by JPS, the moms, and any other patients who receive them.

NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Quilts

One of our community service projects is making NICU quilts for John Peter Smith Hospital. NICU quilts are 36” x 36” prewashed cotton quilts -NO Flannel. These are placed on the incubators in the intensive care unit and become the property of the baby/baby’s family. As some of you may know, the Tight Knots Quilt Bee makes NICU quilts each year as one of their community service projects. Maybe your bee would consider doing the same.

JPS has also requested other items for their patients:

Baby Items:

Receiving blankets and baby quilts – of all sizes

Layettes and Isolettes no smaller than 52”x56”

Cozy Cub Slipcover (tubular coverlet) See the link below for a sample of this item. 40 inches long

9 inches – circumference for small

11 inches – circumference for large

CozyCub–Dandle.LionMedical www.dandlelionmedical.com

Adult Items:

These items are mainly used for patients undergoing chemotherapy at the JPS cancer center and geriatric patients.

Bags to hang on walkers

Adult quilts or blankets (quilted or fleece)

Wheelchair quilt (approximately 36 x 48).

Ostomy bag covers

Small heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer patients to place under their arms after surgery

New request — bags that can be attached to walkers to hold keys, water bottles and other small items.

After working with Smore for a while, we have run into limitations of the formatting available to us. It is easiest if the information is sent either as text, JPG or JPEG pictures. We can attach PDF, Word, and XL documents to the newsletter, but they will appear as links and the reader must download them to their device to read them (easier if done from a laptop/desktop). DOC files that contain text only will be copied into the newsletter, but some of the formatting may be lost.

I would like to share pictures of show-and-tell items, but we must have someone willing to take pictures and email them to the guild email address.

If you are unable to bring your project to the meeting for Show and Share, send a picture to the guild address - with subject - Newsletter show n share. We can include a brief description
