Just like in the classic game of Clue, there has been a crime committed, and somebody is to blame! Walter, the playwright's alter ego in this madcap mystery, demonstrates just how to do someone in -- in your imagination, of course. Tyrannical millionaire, Edward Worthington's, relatives, business associates, and household staff, most of whom have reason to wish the man dead, have gathered on a stormy evening at Worthington Manor to celebrate Edward's fiftieth birthday. In attendance are his attractive wife, her brother, Edward's befuddled older sister, his ex-wife and daughter, a college student, his shady lawyer, the up-tight business manager and his giddy wife, the butler, the housekeeper, the maid, and the cook. Each has a motive that will leave you believing it could be any one of them! You'll be questioning and accusing suspects leading up to the killer's identity in a surprising climax!

I cant believe that is April! We have so many things happening during April and the first couple of weeks of May. We have our 3rd quarter awards on March 30th for K-2nd, and April 1st for 3rd-6th grade at 2:30 PM in the elementary gym. We are excited to be able to invite parents and guest to this event, and we ask everyone to please stay in the gym, as other classes will still be going on, and we do not want distractions for those classes with people in the hallways.

We are also having breakfast buddies on April 1st from 7:00-7:35 AM in the elementary gym.

On April 6th, we will celebrate Paraprofessional's Day. Thank you to Mrs. Lightner, Mrs. Hunt, Mr. Cerrone, Mrs. Snodderley, Miss Dye, and Mr. Harding for all they do for us and our students!

In the month of April, we also celebrate Secretary Day. Thank you so much for all you do Valerie. I am not sure the school could function without you.

On April 11th and 12th, we are having 6th grade transition days where our 6th graders will be able to shadow for the day in the MS/HS building to get familiar and comfortable with what they will be experiencing next year when they switch buildings.

April 14th, the teachers and students will be having our annual MAP testing kickoff kickball tournament, which leads into the biggest event of the Month of April - MAP testing! And you can take a look at the MAP testing schedule, which is posted in this newsletter. Please encourage all students to get rest, try their hardest, and to show everyone how much we have learned at West Nodaway Elementary this year.

Lastly, don't forget that Thursday, April 14th is a make-up day, and we will have Easter break on Friday the 15th and Monday the 18th. Have a very happy Easter, Rockets.

As always, feel free to reach out to me or the classroom teacher if you have any questions and concerns.

Greetings All,

It is hard to believe Spring is upon us. April is a very busy time of year. Baseball competition, as well as track meets, have begun. The academic team is still in competition, as well as FFA contests. Throw on top of this the fact that we do state testing in April, plus the school play, and the fact that we just had prom, and students lives can get very busy outside the classroom, let alone trying to keep up with their academics.

If you get the opportunity, I would encourage you to come out and support West Nodaway students as they perform and compete this Spring in their various endeavors. A little encouragement can go a long way in a student's life.

Counting today (April 1st) there are only 18 attendance days left for the seniors, and 28 attendance days left for the rest of the student body. To put it another way, school will dismiss for the 21-22 school year in six weeks on May 13th. Time sure does fly when you are having fun.

As always, if you have questions or want to visit, please stop by the office.

Community Hospital Fairfax Physicals Community Hospital Fairfax Physicals

No exceptions will be allowed. Please see and print the physical form by clicking here. All interested students in 6th-12th grades must sign up in the high school office before Friday, April 8th. CPR senior boys

We are on the countdown to summer now! Our last month and a half will be a busy one for everyone.

Seniors have completed the required CPR instruction. We use the "CPR in Schools" program through the American Heart Association. We have 10 manikins to get video-led hands on instruction. These manikins have built-in clickers, so students get a good feel for chest compressions. Seniors rocked it this year, and I am confident they could help save a life!

KidSight eye program through the Lion's Club also came to test our PreK, 1st, and 2nd graders. This is photo-based vision screening. Their camera takes a picture of the students' eyes, giving them a pass or fail result. For those that fail, we are given a detailed report explaining the potential problem. This is a quick and easy tool that is so helpful for younger levels that struggle with standard eye charts. This year we had four students that were referred on to get a comprehensive eye exam with an Optometrist. Hopefully early recognition with vision problems will help our students succeed! We have had great results come from this program, and we hope that they can return next year.

April 1st is our immunization clinic here at West Nodaway. We bring in the Nodaway County Health Department to give the required school immunizations for the upcoming year. Hopefully this makes it easy for parents and students to get these completed. This year, we are offering it to our current sixth graders, as they now recommend these immunizations to be given at the age of 11. Sixth and seventh graders need Tdap and Meningococcal prior to the start of eighth grade. Juniors are also included, as they need another dose of Meningococcal prior to their senior year. We have 20 students signed up to participate. Great numbers, and so helpful for me to get these completed and charted now! Some students already have these completed, thank you for that too! If you are planning on getting these immunizations elsewhere, please make sure to get me records as soon as they are done. This helps me so much, and it makes August much smoother.

Counselor's Corner Counselor's Corner

This past month has been full of career exploration with middle school and high school students.

The 8th grade students toured Northwest Technical School, and they have started working on their high school plans!

The sophomores also toured Northwest Technical School to see if they would be interested in attending next year to study Health Science, Automotive Technology, Culinary Arts, Teaching Professions, Welding, Collision Repair, or Building Trades.

The juniors were able to attend a Career Fair at Tarkio Technology Institute. It was also an opportunity for them to explore the various programs that are offered there if they would want to pursue a certification program after high school close to home.

Seniors have been busy finalizing scholarship applications and plans for their future college experiences or job opportunities. There have been several job shadows and college visits happening, and I am so excited to see what the future holds for each of them! Please be checking social media and the website soon for our salute to each senior with our "Rockets Ready to Soar: Senior Spotlights"!

Lastly, we are very excited to be bringing our first, what we hope to be annual, career fair to West Nodaway. We are calling it, "Rockets Return: Career Showcase". It is exciting to invite former Rockets back to talk to students about their current career and the path that led them to that. If you know of a former Rocket, or are one, that would be interested in sharing career experiences with our student, please reach out to me at lsnead@wnrockets.com or call the school to be added to a list of future presenters!

As we quickly approach state testing (MAP/EOC) time, please remember these tips when helping your kiddos be prepared to take these lengthy tests!
