π Principal's Corner
Starting this year, students who did not complete work immediately earned a "0" for the missing assignment. As we continue to monitor student progress, we want you to know that Beck is providing several additional supports to help students address missing assignments and failing grades. To be clear, the expectations remain the same, and missing assignments are automatically a zero. At Beck, we are not going to lower the standard, but instead, support and challenge our students to meet the expectations and develop great habits and a strong work ethic.
Across all three grade levels, students have access to additional work/support sessions during the morning, during lunch, in advisory, and related arts periods where teachers provide targeted assistance with missing work and areas of academic need. Students who have zeros or NHIs (Not Handed In) are being identified regularly and provided structured opportunities to complete assignments with support from teachers, counselors, and administrators. We are also helping students develop better habits around checking grades, identifying missing work, reflecting on their progress, and creating a plan to get caught up.
I encourage parents to regularly check grades and communicate with teachers so that we can work together to ensure every student has the support to be successful.
