Message from the Principal
Greetings, SMS Families.
Each May, SMS is excited to host a Disability Awareness Week. As we approach our 4th Annual Disabilities Awareness Week from May 19th to 23rd, we are excited to raise awareness of the importance of education, inclusion, and belonging. As always, the theme of the week underscores our commitment to fostering a supportive and understanding environment for all students.
Throughout the week, we have planned engaging activities and learning opportunities, aiming to increase awareness of the challenges some of our students face. Here’s what you can expect:
Daily Activities: Each day, students will have the opportunity to participate in activities designed to promote empathy, understanding, and acceptance. We’ll explore different disabilities and celebrate the unique strengths of every individual.
Spirit attire: Each day, there will also be a daily spirit theme for student and staff attire. Flyers will be posted around the school detailing each spirit day.
Positive Social Interactions: Positive social interactions are essential for building a compassionate school community. Students will have the opportunity to engage in activities that encourage friendship, kindness, and respect.
Bridging the Gap: By fostering connections, we create a more inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported. We want to continue to bridge the social gap between students with disabilities and their peers.
Unified Basketball Game: Everyone is invited to attend the Senior Night Game on Thursday, May 22nd, at 5 pm at SHS. Come fill the stands and cheer on our Unified Basketball team.
Please join us in celebrating Disability Awareness Week by speaking with your student(s) at home about some of these learning opportunities. Let’s continue to learn, grow, and create a school community where every student feels seen, heard, and appreciated. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Dr. Fisher

Middle School Students Participate in All County
Music students had the opportunity to participate in the Erie County Music Educators Association (ECMEA) All-County Festivals in March. They are selected through a competitive audition process. Once chosen, these students are invited to participate in a few condensed high-level rehearsals with other musicians from Erie County, culminating in a spectacular performance. This experience allows students to demonstrate not only their individual abilities but also the power of teamwork and musical unity. This experience is often a highlight for many young musicians, offering them a unique opportunity to grow and challenge themselves in a professional and supportive environment.
Jr. High All-County Participants (Grades 7-9): Paul Schneider, Gianna Giordano, Madeline Brecker, Jaclyn Hanrahan, Elin Bowen, Claira Pidsadnick, Kyla Hanrahan, Violet Bennett, Clare Shanahan, Abigail French, Max Brown, Rhett Braman, Anatoly Wochensky. Alternates: (not pictured) Brodie Neureuther, Michael Bridges, Briar Rose Johnson, Daisy Root, Rhett Braman (Jazz Band Alternate)
Trap Team Finishes Top
Please join us in congratulating the SGI Trap Team on another successful year as the undefeated champions in their conference following yesterday's meet! The team started with a record 42 members, including many from the middle school. The top scorer was senior Justin Jerome. As always, thank you to the wonderful volunteers at Springville Field & Stream for their support of this program for our students!
