Just Play!
Just play is a 45 minute parent and child playgroup. This playgroup will allow parents the opportunity to help develop their child’s social skills by engaging with their child in our various play centers. This program will also help with school readiness skills, expectations and classroom rules such as sharing, taking turns, choosing a toy or center and cleaning it up before moving on. All while having fun!
This program is limited to 10 families and sign-up is required.
Story/Time Playgroup
Brush Your Teeth
We want to thank Dentistry for Children for allowing the Tooth Fairy (Claire Riley) to visit with us and teach our families about the importance of early dental care. Each child received a goodie bag with a free toothbrush, toothpaste and stickers.
Story Time Playgroup helps your child’s development in many ways.
Storytime has many benefits for children other than promoting early literacy and language development. It can help develop their concentration, social skills, communication skills, and encourages their imagination and creativity.
Play based learning recognizes that children learn best through active engagement and exploration in meaningful and enjoyable content. As children play, they engage their imagination, take risks and learn problem solving to support their development.
A music- rich experience for children of singing, listening and moving bring serious benefits to children as they progress to more formal learning.
STEM
Roller Coaster
The students from the Alternative Pathways Program set up a fun and exciting STEM lesson for our WCFCC families. Braiden Berry read Roller Coaster which takes the readers up, up, up to the highest point of the roller coaster. The Students brought strips of plumbing insulation, marbles, cups and tape and used the items to create a roller coaster with their group. Each roller coaster had to have a high point and a loop.
Just like in the story, the students' project requires a marble to start at the highest point of their roller coasters in order for it to run through the loop and land in the cup.
The children were so excited and had so much fun rolling their marbles and seeing if it made it around the loop and into the cup.
Mindful Movement
Give your child the gift of balance through our Mindful Movements programs. Our yoga programs help children learn poses that increase strength, flexibility and coordination as well as breathing techniques. We offer 2 separate yoga programs, one for children ages birth - 3 yrs and another program for 4 & 5 year old's.
Each week the children learn new poses that represent the characters in our weekly story. All programs end with a Savasana. Savasana is the final resting pose at the end of each yoga program.
Namaste
Namaste is how we say hello & good bye. It is how we thank each other for a wonderful yoga class.
Super Friend Academy
Our Super Friend Academy program focuses on Social/Emotional learning and transitions to preschool. Super Friend Academy takes place in person at the WCFCC Center which is located at the old Abigail Adams School and has 2 cohorts.
This 4 week transition to preschool program prepares children for the routines and structure found in the preschool setting. Components of Positive Behavior Strategies (PBS) are embedded into programing. Strategies include: teaching and encouraging expected behavior, establishing classroom routines and rituals using visual supports and using school wide expectations and classroom rules. Students that attend will participate in an abbreviated PreK day which includes circle time, a story, and activity centers. A snack from home should be brought with them to have during our daily snack time. This program is appropriate for 3 and 4 yr. olds that are currently not enrolled in a daycare or preschool setting. Families may choose the 2 day program which meets on M/W from 12:00-1:15 or the T/Th program that meets from 9:00-10:15
